Another option would be a "mute" button where you and ONLY YOU simply don't see the person's comments/posts anymore. That wouldn't be too hard to implement and as long as the data people don't take multiple mutes as a cause to completely remove someone it would be a simple matter of individual action being individual representation without harming anyone else involved.
