Steem Dollars DECREASING?

in steemit •  8 years ago

HI!

Fellow Steemsters, I hope you can help.

Why would one's amount of Steem Dollars DECREASE on a post?

I initially had 24 dollars on my first ever post on Steemit:

Now it is only more than 18 dollars?

Thanks for your help!

Im not too sure but i have some theories...

Theory 1: Payouts occur every 24 hours, if someone votes on your post while they have 99% voting power... and then they go on to vote on 999 other posts during the same day. Then their voting power is reduced since the payout is split into many other posts. I believe this is to prevent spamming of upvotes and promote upvoting on only good content. You may have 99999 steem power, but if you have 0.01% voting power then well not all of your steem power will be effective when upvoting.

Theory 2: idk i cant think of another one...

Random fact you can check your voting power on https://steemd.com/

Awesome, thanks! Upvoted for your great tip.

It can go up or down based on a few different things. One factor is the market price of Steem, though I think the internal number is based on a one-week average. Second, the quantity of Steem is always increasing, which dilutes everything. Be thankful you weren't here before the first July 4 payout; one of the first posts went down from $140,000 to $2,500 before the payout, mainly due to dilution (now, at least we have payouts every day). Also, if a whale (large Steem Power holder) votes on your post, but then goes off and votes on a bunch more in a short period, this can make each vote worth less. Those are the reasons, as I understand, that a post's value can change. It is always just an estimate until the actual payout.

Cool, thanks. Upvoted.

Haha just saw this post was made 11 months ago. Anyways, it helped me now! So - thank you:)

It could also be that someone has flagged your post for some reason. I believe flagging (or downvoting) would decrease your earnings. Just a thought.
