Goodbye Instagram, hello Steemit!

in steemit •  7 years ago

I never really understood what's the Instagram hype all about. I see the point for people with the need to share selfies from within their phones all day long, I mean that's what Instagram is: a selfie-echo-chamber. But there is no point to use it as an artist. You can't even include a working web link into your post which cripples any sort of promotion for shows, auctions or any other external content. I tried Instagram but it was a waste of time. Luckily we have better options today!

I want to encourage the artists here to invite their audiences to take a look at steemit!

I'm done with Instagram. It's a dead end and I don't want to waste my energy there any more. It's time for you content creators to get payed for your creativity, with real value, not just with 'likes' or 'hearts'. Don't waste yourself on platforms like Instagram or Facebook by earning THEM billions with YOUR content, with your time!
I'm moving my primary online activities to steemit.com, a decentralized blockchain-based social network with a promising reward systems for content creators. It's not perfect but it's a beginning. I'll keep sharing my steemit blogs on my Facebook page. On Instagram, however, I can't even share an external web link! So goodbye Instagram, see you on the other side!

Cheers,
Peter

Join the Club dude! STEEM is the way forwarded! Paid to gain!

Well, here I am!

I agree! Good luck with steemit.

Thank you for introducing me to Steemit. A learning curve to be sure, but should be well worth it in the future. I hope you have a better time on here than the other platforms! I look forward to enjoying more of your art on here!

Welcome Christine!

Ive used instgram for my art work (smedwrds) for a couple of years and found it to be a good platform for my work, I managed to advertise and promote my prints on it. However, it became a bit pointless in terms of making consistent sales. I've only just joined Steemit and am hoping to reap the rewards of the platform as an artist. Good luck to you, please check my page and hope we can connect! Peace

Steemit is worth trying out. However, it might take quite some time and many post before you'll get to see some coins.

Saw your post and liked this first, because it seemed to be something a bit different. Off to a new road :-)

Welcome my friend! See you around! :-)

Thank you Peter for pointing me this way :-)

I hope it will work for you. It takes some time to understand the whole system behind it and to finally generate some revenue.

I'll try my best. Good luck and much success here for you too

Reinhard - about the bike: I never understood how one can ride such a big machine. I am afraid that if I can't pick it up when it falls over and I need to call a crane to assist ...... Biggest I ever rode ages ago was 600cc, at work on the railroad in Canada we had 500cc 4-wheeler ATV's. Had fun doing wheelies with them!

Its all a question of "love" and I wouldn't give my 2.3 liter steem engine for anything. Fell over only once, and to my big surprise I could lift her back up... wheelies seem a bit hard , but there are some guys who do them on the roadster version of the Rocket!

Steemit is the future. I agree. it's much more interactive for me here even now, but I'm still parallel posting in Instagram for a while. Many Friends and followers over there just aren't ready or willing to come to Steemit yet, and I don't want to lose connection with them by just pulling out of IG. One day tho... I praise your move and your exit post on IG.

Yeah I like that you can get a conversation going on steemit, whereas on the other platforms everyone just clicks a like button and their done. Also for artists there is more room to talk about your process and go more in depth about your art .

Definitely far more real conversations happening here than on the other networks. And to sweeten things further, we earn rewards for doing so. =)

Thank you!

thats what im thinking to... i seldom open my instagram because i like posting photos here...

glad you joined too, I'm new but I love steemit platform and what it stands for

Instagram is an awesome social network. I never really understood the hype at first too. I made a personnal account a few years ago, deleted it because it wasn't interesting. I made a new account for business purposes, grew it and made some money promoting products, selling shoutouts etc... It just depends of your niche too. But yeah, I guess instagram is not the best for an artist indeed.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

For me it didn't really work, not even with 16k+ followers. I hate the interface with its limitations and the fact that I need to use a phone to post.

Good bye all of them!! Steemit is the best!

Thanks for introducing me to Steemit! I'm looking forward to exploring and sharing here.

Welcome Paul! Great to see you here!

Welcome to Steemit Paul!
Full Steem ahead! =)

I totally agree with you @gric !

FB= waste of time and time=money, therefore spending time in Facebook is equivalent to wasting money. It's fine if you use it to keep up with what your friends are doing, often times it seems all they're doing is posting truly meaningless content like memes and unoriginal inspirational crap. At least his has been my experience.

Since I joined steemit recently I've stayed off of Facebook. I have an instagram account but never really used it much as it just seemed like another time-suck like Facebook. I like that steemit hasn't been inundated with a lot of the useless content I see on the other social media sites although there is a lot to sort through here.

I could spend all day on here if only I had the time...

Well, Steemit can be very time consuming too, especially when you try to understand how that damn thing works!

at this point I'm wondering if it might not be better to stay at my easel ;-)

Painting certainly is more rewarding then messing around with social media. The thing is artists have to be present on these networks today. I think it's better to invest time in this instead of wasting it on facebook & co. You still can share your Steemit posts on fb or anywhere else just by copy/paste (except Instagram of course).

I agree, it would be great to be able to ignore this. I for one could just work and not interact with anybody, as I have done for years. But must stay starving if I do that

The hard bit is, that so many people use Facebook these days, it is like a telephone book. You have to be on it for people to find you or contact you. So I now keep my time and effort there to the barest minimum, because otherwise as you said @cryptokeepr, I'm then only wasting time and money.

I couldn't agree more. I toiled on instagram for years to build a following and hopefully generate business and a possible income for my passion. But like facebook, it has changed into a money making platform for the companies that run them. I became disillusioned with facebook when they started to throttle everyone's reach and made you start to pay just so your followers can see your content!

Now I've discovered Steemit I am much happier. Starting over here is a bit daunting but I feel here at least I am making progress and I am heading in a positive direction, not to mention the engagement here is much higher and so much more positive. I've barely looked at instagram since I discovered this place!

Yes, the learning curve is quite steep here but it's worth the effort!

Definitely!

Im in this with you haha! Instagram is a visual platform full of illusions. You just have to know it isn't real, that people are standing on their chair to make sure their table looks good. And thanks to an array of free applications, with the swipe of a finger, you can curate your own image to become prettier, thinner and hotter. So fake and superficial.

Anyways keep up the good work man:) xoxo @gric

Yes, but it's not just this but also the ridiculously limited one-way functionality of Instagram.

Hello Gric!
I saw your post on Facebook and immediately came here to join STEEM. I paint with oil colors and felt that this is a great place to share my work with others!
Thank you for the post! ;) Great stuff!
You made my day.

Good to see you here!

Thanks Riku! I hope you'll enjoy it here! It's all a bit confusing and complicated in the beginning but it's definitelly worth trying!

I'm already loving it here!
Btw, your artwork has been a great inspiration for me. The perspective/shapes and detail especially. All these pipes and wires and the way you put the light behind them... Yes, I may have stolen some inspiration from you which I am trying to implement in some of my coming works.

Thank you! I'm always happy to hear than other people find inspiration in my work!

I managed to resist all social networks until steemit. Finally we get to earn off our work. This place will only grow as more and more realise a 'like' is meaningless and their work is being exploited.

Lets see how it will work out! Hard to tell if it's going to be better or worse when there are like 100x more people here.

Hi Peter ! I am rescued my account ! I am finally here ! :))) In time I learned how to use it 😎

Fantastic Can! Welcome! You'll need some time to understand the whole system - it's not exactly as trivial as Facebook & co.

Hello Cam! =)
Welcome aboard.
For many new people, the voting and points system seems complicated at first. Here is an excellent post and entertaining video about how it all works.
https://steemit.com/steemit/@sethlinson/announcing-steemit-explained-a-new-animated-series

Thanks Leo ! It's great to be connected you with here.. !

So... get busy posting, commenting, voting and sharing!
You earn rewards for all of them. It is a win win for everyone. ;-)

Yeah it has a lot of promise but we need a few adjustments to avoid a million vanity selfies and random pictures of plants floodimg the place.
I was thinking the fine artists on steemit need to start promoting a new tag to seperate from the 'art' tag which has become a bit of a catch all.
Not sure who we have to talk to to get a tag listed but if we could get a whale behind the idea it would help further the working artists trying to carve out a space on here.

I don't think there is an authority taking care of that list. The more a tag is used the more its value I guess.

I used 'fineart' in my last post, seems like a pretty sparsely used tag. Could also use 'working-artist' or something like that? Need a conscensous to get behind a tag.
But could start using a tag like this as a standard, it'll take time to fill out but if working artists start it up i guess it might bring value eventually. If nothing else it can act as a filter to check out other artists while still listing on 'art' and 'drawing' for the masses with the other tags.

Yes! I tried Facebook and Instagram... it felt like I was always trying to get people to "Like" my work but I realise now what @gric says about monetizing the content as opposed to just trying to promote it.

Welcome to steemit Peter, you have nice portfolio.

Thank you @serhanni!

good bye instagram??? really??
for steemit? you said good bye to instagram? good efforts

I barely used it because of its limitations and shitty interface.

Would you be open to me using some of your art for my blogs?

I'm trying to develop a network of artists and writers who work together. Artists get promoted in other blogs, and writers get new exposure from the fans of the artists.

For me, I am doing my best to only use steemian generated art for all of my blogs. My blogs don't make much right now, but I always send the artists a tip, linkback to original post, and tag the artists. In general, I think a percentage of the post payout would be a fair way to work it out... you can check some of my recent posts for examples of how my "image sources" look.

If you would like more details, see this post: Why don't we get more Images for our Blogs from other Steemians?

I would love any feedback you have on the issue. It would be great to get the community on board. Right now I'm focusing on finding artists who are interested, and then once we have a decent number of artists, then I will be contacting writers encouraging them to connect with the artists who are on board.

Also, perhaps you already know, but there is a Discord Server for Artists on Steemit. <3

Have Fun, and Steem on!
(#notabot Genuine Alien Interaction)

After finally getting some traction here on Steemit and spending more time here, when I go back to other networks, I start wondering, what am I doing here? Likes mean nothing and bring nothing. On Steemit, they earn you something. Other networks seem like empty echo chambers now.

I see you! Can't hide from meeeeee!

Pikaboo!

Can't agreed more.

Definitely worth an upvote and a resteem :)

Thanks!

Steemit is a great place for artists! :)

Yes, it's getting better!

Welcome here sir @gric . It's a great platform to begin with and We would be more than grateful to learn from your wisdom and experiences.

Thank you sir! I'll give my best!

Is there an App for the mobile phones for Steemit?

Yes, there is eSteem, but I still didn't use it.

It'a cool app that allows you upload a profile picture.. I started to used it :)))

I have been thinking same things for several days allready, I agree Insta is just no point to be, and FB you pay THEM...so yes, moving here ..

Steemit has still big issues with its "Steem Power" distribution and how it is exploited by the big "whales". It's pretty much like in the real world - big money multiplies. But still, I believe its decentralized core bears some potential.

I'm not so bothered by the whales. I am bit by bit making my way here. Slow and steady (consistent) wins the race. Although, there is no race on Steemit. I'm here to build an engaged audience. Earning rewards for my posts is a bonus. =)

Yes, it's just can be frustrating at times when the reward you get for a post you spent an hour or more is just a few cents. Then you might ask yourself if the time wouldn't be wiser to be used with painting!

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

That's why I limit my time even on Steemit. Painting comes first. ;-)
But even with painting, we rarely sell a painting first go, and sometimes its years before we sell it. So, not earning on a few posts is not so bad.

I totally agree. I don't see the point sharing tons of photo on Instagram just to get some likes. People on Instagram mostly like to get likes on their own posts. Scrolling like crazy through the feed "liking" photos. Same goes with facebook. From now it's Steemit and YouTube for me.

It's definitely different here.

I never understood Instagram phenomena neither, but I used it, because everyone did and photos and all that (never shared a selfie though). I also don't get Twitter, Flickr and all that Look_what_i_did_today places.
Steemit is the place to be :)

Lets see how this network will perform in long term!

Yea... so far so good.
But I have experience with Tsu.. it was working well, people we happy and then suddenly, without any warning one day it was shut down ;)

This can always happen...

I agree! I never understand this Instagram thing, and I resisted joining it, but Steemit? That's something!

Yes, it has potential!

I agree. Too much free time and energy invested for what you have no income. Live steemit, every beginning is tough, but no resignation! We give each other and we all get! :)

Yesss!!
Did you share this on Instagram? ;)

Welcome to SteemIt it's the future for artists!
Check out @zappl too the twitter for SteemIt!

Ok, thanks!

Welcome my dear friend in cool family

Thank you!

You welcome:)

Joined steemit almost a month ago, im doing very little facebooking nowadays. Welcome

Fantastic! :-)

lololo

Absolutely!

Steemit is the future for creators. Have fun

Thanks @steevc!

Steemit is the present and the future!

Yeah... Agree with you @ppita
Like @gric said, goodbye all of social media, except one: steemit.

We will see!

Thats so true - we have better options now :-)

I have just joined Steemit and the prospect of displaying some of my art is exciting, especially since the feedback is almost instant. From your experience so far, how has it helped you promote your art business?
Your work is amazing btw!
👍🏻

Thank you @enkulu! At this point it's not so much about promotion but about monetization of content.

Yeah!

I will join in the chorus congratulating you.

I never stared instagramming, but my girl shares my stuff on there and has a heap of followers.

But I have just got her on here, so will see how it all shakes out

Well, lately I'm seeing the big whales flagging people without explanation and destroying their reputations and payouts. It looks like steemit is turning into a totalitarian whale-oligarchy.

well, I don't think it's random though
I think there's more to it than meets the eye.
The whales aren't going to benefit from driving people away. I think it's difficult for us wee fish to know what is really going on

Totally agree, sick paintings @gric !

Thanks!

Good on you, I have just started on Steemit and Im getting pretty excited about it. Instagram is ok I had some success, but you right much better here.

you are right! I started on Instagram months ago Steemit.. and it was just a waste of time.. and people didnt care about my stuff... i have only about 60 followers till now.. but here? its a big difference.. I see people react, they care more and you can write long posts, not just send photos from cell phones (this was a total nonsense for me)... I hope Steemit will become bigger and swallow platforms like Instagram...

What is instagram? :)))

I have no idea! :-)

Great, @Gric I applaud this decision!

This Post was Added to the Steemit Social Media Queue.

Thank you @hilarski!

Love your content! I recently dropped youtube, facebook, twitter not that i had a huge following and also i will be placing much less attention to instagram.
