We All Carry the Weight • Steemit Is Growing & We Are Growing With It • WE ARE ALL INVESTORS IN STEEMITsteemCreated with Sketch.

With the first week of 2018 in the books, one thing seems pretty obvious to all of us here on Steemit - we're growing!

That's great news for authors, musicians, artists and creatives that share & create content here on Steemit. So many of us are seeing the recent rise in value benefit the community and just about anyone that isn't abusing this platform is benefitting. However, that is not to say there are no people who are benefitting and who are abusing the platform. I consider that to be normal 'growing pains' of success - people tend to flock to success and Steemit's recent rise in value has drawn a lot of attention.

Not All Attention Is Good

Just as success attracts the good people, it also attracts the opposite kind of people - the bad. People who do not have any regard for anyone else and treat the world as if it owes them something. Well, that sort of thinking usually comes with a FREE reality-check at some point.

Like Attracts Like Too

As with anything in nature, there is a balance. We have a ton of creative people here on this platform and more on the way. There are many of us that create and express ourselves on this platform and I think it is wise to consider how we will go about attracting quality (hint: we must first offer quality!).

We ALL Hold the Weight

If you have STEEM POWER, in any capacity, you have "vests" - essentially "vested interest". Knowing that might alter how you perceive this platform. Once you have a balance beyond zero ($0.001) you begin to accumulate VESTS (aka your vested interest in Steemit). It does matter how you use Steemit because you actually have an investment. We trade our time (sharing our content) and we earn / accumulate STEEM POWER.

That means if you have a Steemit account that has a non-zero balance = YOU are invested = You're an Investor

to use, give, or devote (time, talent, etc.), as for a purpose or to achieve something source

When you look at it from that perspective, you will see that you have responsibilities to uphold. I'm not saying we all need to become thought-police and harass one another. What I am trying to suggest is that each of us sets the bar here. We either set it so low anyone can stumble over it OR we push ourselves to set the bar a little higher.

We Don't Even Need Money to Become an Investor in Steemit!

BE THANKFUL! Especially when you consider that here in the U.S. you can't even start a trading/investment or savings account with under $500 USD!

Truth! When I looked into setting up bank accounts for my children, banks were not shy to express there was a minimum amount you can start with. After getting into investing and trading in my mid-20s (not so long ago) I soon realized you can't start a trading account, on virtually any known exchange, with under $500. Not to forget they charge $10 to $15 per trade with minimums that gobble that $500 right up.

And...HOW MUCH is a trade on the internal exchange here on Steemit? FREE

.

Lightening fast too if you haven't noticed. This blockchain had one hell of a stress test to start 2018, in a recent post of mine you can see the chart volume and it's pretty intense! So many transactions have taken place on this blockchain in 2018 already. We're growing...

Every Time YOU AND I Vote, Resteem, Comment, Post on this platform - the bar is in our hands.

Are you aiming for quantity or quality? I ask because it not only impacts YOUR investment, but it also impacts mine and everyone else who has an account balance beyond zero. Think about it. If we are not careful, we undermine the value of this entire system. If you think taking away more value than you contribute is a cash-cow that'll last forever - think again. Treat your actions here as if they are immediately impacting your investment because they are.

You're an investor. Invest Wisely.

Express yourself, be free, make peace wherever possible and add value wherever you go.

Dream it & Steem it

The payouts and what's valuable on here boggles my mind. I don't understand it and just write about what I want to write about without worrying. This place is definitely a long term investment for me, and I mean that in many more ways than just for money. It is also being used to improve my writing skills for example. Helping people with their residential security is only going to improve my skills in the long run as well!

I am less than a week old here. I was showing my wife how just one comment earned me 3 dollars, she said take the money out. I said what's the meaning of cashing out after you make the first sale in a business? I said I am going to stay invested, if the business goes down the drain what am I to lose with nothing going out of my pocket but just think of the potential reward if this succeeds.

Not to mention... if you forgot to calculate the total correctly - I know it confused me at first! like your comment for example: it says $0.11 but we earn STEEM and SBD (Steem Dollars) and you have to multiply that by the current market value 🤑 which really depends on where you live (in the world) and which exchange you use. For me, (US) SBD is $8.27 at time of writing, so 0.11 x 8.27 = ~$0.91.
@svkrulze If you have any questions about Steemit, feel free to ask!

Thanks @grow-pro, one thing I love about this community is how responsive and helpful people are

No problem! There's much reward simply in doing what it is that we love to do.
Have some fun and the rest is a bonus ✌️😎

:)

Welcome! Please check out my Welcome post. It may help you get started.

Just realize I have to redo the math cuz @finnian's awesome..lol

Of course I am, but my friends are too! /wink :)

I attest to that!

Haha

Yes, it is boggling..BUT it's nice when I expect really nothing at all and get something. Anything is better than nothing when it comes to encouragement. Sure, I'm not getting rich here, but this is an outlet that I really enjoy. I love making content for steemit and writing (to simply purge my thoughts if for any other reason).

It's nice to have place where you can share and exchange ideas freely. I haven't talked to so many people in different parts of the world like I have here, since the early G+ days! At least here you can express your talents and archive them to enhance your business 😉

Very true, yes! I'd be here writing about residential security whether I was paid for my time or not. It's still a good thing for me to be doing for selfish reasons and for helping others. By selfish I mean it helps me improve my writing, get my reputation out in the public, etc. My main hope here is that people will benefit from what I'm sharing too. It sounds like a clique, but what I share could save a person's life.

I've learned quite a bit from your posts and I'm talking about things virtually nobody thinks about until a professional, like yourself, shows you. Quite a few of your posts made me rethink the layout of 'the perfect property' in so many ways - driveway, sight lines, barriers/cover. Things it is quite nice to know before you need that sort of advice. Residential security is something most people assimilate to a "burglar alarm", but you and I both know that's virtually useless in any real threatening situation.

I know I'm not the only one that remapped the homestead protocols after reading your posts!! It is one of those things you think "nah, I got that covered" and then abruptly realize 'oh, ok I never thought about that'.

Keep on STEEMIN' and DREAMIN', Finnian

Awesome! I'm happy to hear it. Yes, there's so much information to share, and I've literally read ever book there is out there for residential security. Most of it is surface layer garbage like alarm systems as you mentioned. No one gets into the real serious issues like doors opening outward instead of in, line of sight, angles of attack (seriously), vehicle barriers, etc. As a person who loves physical security too, it is easy for me to read about the topic. It's definitely my passion, and I'll continue to share what I learn with my friends!

so, now i'm the investor :)

Congrats on your WIN!!
I appreciate your nicely written article. You help set the bar high.
I am minnow trying to invest wisely in time and finances and add something of value to the platform.

Thank you, @vonabell! It was a pleasant surprise! Never thought I had a chance, but I took one anyhow..lol

Your kind words are greatly appreciated! Steem Onward and Upward! 🔥🚀

Thank you @msp3k, @isaria, and everyone involved with the MSP Project • Also to my fellow #libertyprofessionals of Steemit, @finnian and @mbrown121500 for making it possible.

people tend to flock to success and Steemit's recent rise in value has drawn a lot of attention.

yeap... to the biggest extend that "bubble-attention" might be of the wrong kind.

While I agree with the sentiment of this post, that very introductory argument really made me want to raise my very own and twisted hope for the future of steemit.

I hope the value of steem and SBD will go down to sub $1 levels, I want to see the greed lose interest as it sees stagnating gains while the engaged will stay dedicated, because they are here for more than just the gains.

sorry for taking it off-topic.

That's what I like to hear, @fraenk! Very good point you make. Although I recall SBD at $1 and also recall STEEM sub-$1 for a good bit; the amount of greed was strikingly similar at those levels as it is now. I can also say with my limited knowledge of this platform (~200 days) that the price increase did something I did not expect to see. I realized when STEEM was high, the only people truly benefitting from the platform were top-holders of STEEM = 1% or less of the entire user base! That's who got the pay, not me! My posts would made squat, some were 30k words and original media!! While steem hoarders post a snapshot of a table with food they did not make and rake up $1000.

When SBD went up 15x - I saw something I had never seen before on Steemit = EVERYONE actually benefitting from a price move. Not just the inner circle this time. I think it is a necessary evil, but also agree with you that this must ebb and flow - it must never remain here.

I'd love to see more people focus less on the payout and more on the quality relationships and content...BUT... so long as Steemit is advertised as "GET PAID TO POST" that is literally impossible. If the Hook slogan was "Spread Light and Make Love" you might attract philanthropists and scholars (more likely creepy people looking for sex..lol).

I'm not sure, but I know I am going to stick around and see where this experiment goes.

Thanks for making me think - please drop by any time!!!

I was getting all ready for a serious reply debating the economics of this place but then:

If the Hook slogan was "Spread Light and Make Love" you might attract philanthropists and scholars (more likely creepy people looking for sex..lol).

totally cracked me up. No way I'll continue thinking economics now!

I have a feeling we'll be seeing each other around here again :D

Right on, this platform is still in early stages.

Think about where you want to be with it when the number of users here is 600 million instead of 600 thousand.

No doubt! I like where your mind is, my friend. I think we are at the precipice and just beginning our ascent. I know we will be happy to have had the headstart ;)

It is going to be a very interesting year, @oylup.

I like your attitude! I´m still not sure though if it´s possible to get seen here without a decent amount of investment in STEEM - at least if I look at the many posts here, that get zero attention and Steemit growing, which means that still 90% of people won´t be seen in a way, that really earns them money (even if they post "good content" - whatever that means and who is there to judge?) Anyway, I really do wish for all of us, that this "social experiment" is benefiting us all on the long run.

Thanks, @atmosblack. It does take a bit to get going here and I know "the struggle is real" for a majority of us. However difficult it may be, it is not yet impossible. I came to steemit 200 days ago, knowing literally only 1 person, @finnian. I joined and knew 1 person 200 days ago. I've met dozens of incredible people, worked with creative minds all over the globe on projects on and off steemit, and just crossed 700 followers.

If you had asked me 200 days ago where I'd be now - I'd have likely said "long gone". I shared my thoughts and uncensored feelings about this platform and have called out imbalance where I have seen it. It exists and it does discourage a lot of people. I was one of those people who was nearly discouraged from posting any longer.

As you said, "good content" (whatever that means) is what earns, right? Wrong. We all know that. Instead of quitting - I chose to stick it out and try to change that. I also want to help people get past the hurdles that almost took me out, before they give up and turn away.

I'm a warrior and my friend @finnian, who brought me to Steemit - is one too. We are not thrilled that this platform is the way it is, but we also agree that we aren't leaving without a fight. We will work to make this a place that we are proud of or go down with the ship in a valiant attempt.

I really enjoy creating content here and so much so I only do what I do - here! This is a great social experiment and one that I believe really challenges individuals. It has made me reassess my goals and actually push to move in the direction I want to go.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts @atmosblack, you are certainly not alone, my friend. It is a struggle, but worth it. Struggles are always easier with good people behind you, pushing forward. I'm here when you need support. ;)
