Where are we in the Steem Galaxy

The data stored in the Steem block chain is open for everyone to read. There are also quite a lot of tools available for anyone to build a query for the block chain data. Out of curiosity, I prepared a simple query to count the number of accounts at different reputation levels.

At the time of writing on 23 January 2018, the total number of accounts is 639,641. It is normal to see that majority of the accounts are at a low level of reputation. The main reasons are:

1. Default reputation level at 25 for newly opened account
2. Initial difficulty of getting higher reputation due to no Steem Power
3. Users give up blogging, leaving the account idled at lower level

After the group of lower than 30, the following three groups are 30-40, 40-50 and 50-60 respectively. We can see the number of accounts in these groups are gradually smaller as level goes up. We can see a relatively big drop in the number of accounts starting from the group of 60-70, and eventually a very sharp drop in the group of higher than 70.

It should require quite a lot of hard work in order to be over 40. To be up to 50-60, you are probably an expert in a certain area. To be the top 201 super big users, you may need to produce high-quality work consistently over a long period of time with a lot of loyal followers.

The top 201 accounts with reputation level over 70. You should probably be very familiar with their names in the news feed, under Trending and Hot categories.
