Facepalm

^ Iconic facepalm

Tomorrow we'll be running our script to pull the top 'Introduceyourself' tag misusers.

It has come to our attention that many new Steemit users, particularly those from countries where English is their second or third language, are using the tag mistakenly. Some have mentioned that while researching Steemit they found guides advising them to use this and other tags that have nothing to do with their post.

For a while we all thought they were full of shit and no one would write such a guide. So we looked for it. The first obvious search pulled it up.

Found the Guide

This is a guide written last year and is meant to be humor. Individuals who are not as familiar with sarcasm in a language that isn't their own, or just miss the point altogether, are taking it as advise.

And it's working.

It's getting them the upvotes but then when they get called out for it there's this general surprise. If someone wrote a guide about it then it must be true, right?

Sadly, this is also one of the most concise and best-written guides out there. Too bad it's not meant to be one.

Conclusion

In short, thank you @stowy for inadvertently mindfucking the user base (and not even getting paid for it).

Sort Order:

now if you could go after the art tag. Most entries have nothing to do with art. I have to scroll until my fingers bleed to find real art under that tag!
Probably the same with other 'prominent' tags.
And the hashtag #facepalm does not yield any results - strange now, isn't it?

The art tag has been a disaster for as long as anyone remembers. We have shit art, stolen art, false ID art, and I think amongst all the trash there's half a dozen real artists. I have to tell you that I wouldn't have enough hours in the day to deal with that. Strange about #facepalm. Didn't expect that.
