You are free to make your own judgement, I am just empowering you with information.
How this technique works
1. Follow thousands of people in hope that they will follow back in return
2. Some people do follow back (in-fact a lot do!)
3. After a few days or weeks simply unfollow all users you had followed
This makes their followers numbers more than following and to a newbie user visiting the profile, it seems that these are really popular users.
Steemit is very different from the typical Social Networks and we all know it. With this report, I am not trying to point any fingers and you may have legitimate reasons to unfollow people in thousands! I am just trying to bring more transparency in the platform. The aim is to make aware and discourage people from using such practices which otherwise work perfectly on other closed Social Platforms!
This report has been generated using @arcange's amazing www.steemsql.com service.
Isn't the max amount of actions (read: unfollows ) on Steem 28.800 per day?
24h * 60 min * 60 sec / 3 sec per block?

No wonder his post was downvoted.

I feel even though someone has 1000 followers, if they can get 50-60 loyal followers then it is more than enough. Having so many followers is of no use because then you will not able to find out the quality post from the people you are following.

Exactly.. unfortunately only few people realize that!

I disagree. If I have say 100,000 followers, it doesn't cost me any attention. But if I am following thousands of users, I am going to have many thousands of posts in my feed per day and I would doubt that all of those posts will be interesting for me.
On the other hand, it's all about what's interesting. If you find my posts interesting, you can follow me. If you don't, please don't. I might look at your last couple posts to see whether you post topics I am interested in. This way everyone gets to see the kind of posts they want, which might not be the same as the trending page.
It is my opinion that all of these listed users are not people choosing people to follow but are using this auto-follow bot.

Yes, they are using the auto-follow bot to gain subscribers. They then unfollow people in droves to make their profile seem legit. The next step for them is to run services like resteem.com and resteemexposure.com

I try to follow people who have something of value to say. If people decide to follow me, I want it to be because they think something I have posted is of value to them. Organics all the way :)

If someone follows you and then unfollows you, unfollow them back. I know a couple of them are just following and unfollowing all day and night long to try to catch up to Joan Altres @joanaltres, who now has 20k followers. But she never unfollows anyone.
@cryptoriddler in particular does nothing but follow and unfollow those who don't follow back, every day. I've been keeping up with these type of guys since you started posting this information. Thanks!

Thanks @jorgevallarosa. Good to know that. I hope the Steem platform puts a limit to this growing problem.

I think the Cyber Gods should do something more with these folk who follow you and then decide to unfollow you within the space of the next 72 hours. It just shows no respect at all. Just because they haven`t met the person before they think they can just kick them into the fires of hell like a lost soul!

Interesting, who knew?! But wouldn't unfollowing 44,000+ take all day?! I could think of several things to post in that time. I'd really rather build my followers by putting out good , interesting, content than chasing money. I've chased it all my life. Now Ima let it chase me! Lol

this is a realy stupid thing i think why woud you follow people you dont eaven care what they post so you never woud find what you realy like i thinks the best way is step by step post by post and slowly by slowly the followers come.

I thought Steemit was all about quality content. There are only so many posts one could read in a day, so these people following thousands of bloggers are obviously not playing the game.
