🐍 The Seven Deadly Sins Of Steemit: What NOT To Do! 🐍

in steemit β€’Β  7 years agoΒ

Steemit is such a wonderful place to be, full of creativity, positivity, learning, sharing and caring! But like any social media platform, sometimes people tend to annoy others. In a place like Steemit where your 'Reputation Score' is important, you won't last long with bad behaviour, so I though I would compile a list of the things you should avoid while you're here:

❌ 1. Spamming People In The Comments. ❌

It's easy to tell if people are spamming you in the comments by going to their page and looking at the last few comments they have left. As you can see for this guy they are all the same.. Hmm... wonder why his reputation score is only 15?

❌ 2. Plagarism: ❌

As it says in the Steemit bible, thou shalt only create original content. Some people work hard on here to create recipes, take great photographs, write great stories, videos etc. So when you just copy and paste a recipe, image or article straight from somewhere else on the internet or on Steemit, it is really annoying for those people who work hard. There is a little bot called Cheetah who will look for plagarised work and will leave a comment like this with a link to the original work:

3. ❌ Posting Links in General Chat. ❌

The General Chat section on SteemitChat is for... well.. "general chat" I guess. If you want to promote your posts you can go to the post promotion section.. or if you are new I would recommend setting up Minnow Support as well!

4. ❌ Too Much Self-Upvoting ❌

Everyone has the right to upvote on their own posts if they want to. Sometimes when you are just starting out here it's good to do that. If you were to do it I would only recommend using 1-2 of your votes a day o yourself and using the rest on other people.

You have 10 good votes a day and we are a community, so try and vote on 10 good posts that you think deserve it.

5. ❌ Never Checking In with Your Followers ❌

Some people on here have a LOT of followers. But most people have a manageable enough amount where they can still reply to each person who leaves a comment on their post. Steemit is a social network, so you need to interact with other people. Try and go through the list of people who follow you once in a while, check out their posts and show them some love with your upvotes as well!

6. ❌ Bitching and Complaining ❌

I hate whingey people on Steemit. I work in customer service and I listen to people bitch, whinge and complain all day because their sense of entitlement has sent them a little loopy. I'm not saying that you can't have insecurities that you can express and ask for advice, but seriously when I see titles like this:

and then in that post there are sentences like this...

I'm just like, come on, bro! Lighten up! Guess how much money that post made?

❌ 7. Don't Get So Disheartened That You Leave and Never Return! ❌

Steemit is an awesome place to be and even though it can seem overwhelming and daunting at first, there is so much support out there!

Sharing the same thoughts but didn't know how to express myself. :D Good to have you in my friends list. For some people Steemit means "give me because you have to" without create something with value. Almost everyone uses Facebook which pays 0 back....And no one complains :)) haha . We have a word here in Romania "Give someone a finger and he will take your whole hand."

Kisses

Thank you @mikimike :) Yes that is so true, everyone uses Facebook for nothing at all...
I like that Romanian phrase haha, I will remember it :)

Thank you for your post. I am still new and any advise is useful!

thank you @tikotiko :) Welcome to Steemit!! Hope you like it here :)

A Great post and am glad to say I don't think I have committed any of them, well I did upvote my own photos twice I think but that's all :)

thank you @tattoodjay! haha good to know you are still pure and holy in the eyes of Steemit!! :)

LOL I doubt that I just haven't broken any of the rules you have mentioned I am sure there must be others that I messed up on :) have a great day

preach sistah! Too right!

I also think it's really important for people to understand that it takes work, and that one if the top things to do is to interact with others

Yeah for sure :) same as facebook really - don't think you'd have much fun if you just posted and posted and never went to anybody elses profile or spoke to anyone on there haha :)

What a sad, sad existence that would be!

Wowsers...I can't even believe people post comments like that. But like you said...we are now in an age of self entitlement delusional narcissism.

I agree with this, all of it. Although Im still relatively new (I say relatively cause Ive already put in a loooot of hours writing content and reading others posts) I have already seen tons of people doing exactly what you describe. Its annoying, indeed. Good thing there are still plenty of people out there (who I aim to be a part of) taking it seriously and are being considerate to the other people here and the quality growth of the platform!

Yes absolutely! Steemit is a really great place to be!!
Welcome, I hope you have fun here, best of wishes with your (relatively) new blog :)

Haha thank you! Will try my best :)

Thanks, luckily I didnt do any mistakes yet ...

haha always good, but we will all make mistakes at some point :)

Again, I admire your positive point of view. I just skip spam replies, and I never read posts where the author is bitching about lack of rewards. We all make money here, so what more can we ask for?

thanks, very helpful

the mute button is just sitting there.
it solves all of those problems.

from your world
let them complain to themselves.

hahaha good point @everittdmickey
