Did any of your posts have hundreds of views and not even a single comment? Did you pour your heart into a comment and did not receive a simple ‘thanks for dropping by’ much less an upvote?
How did that make you feel? Like your content was not good enough or maybe nobody is interested in listening to what you have to say. Like nobody gives a s***. Makes you wonder what the hell are doing here on Steemit, doesn’t it?
I write these questions above because they are my dilemma too. Even as I write this I hope that somebody comments on this post, even if to just call me a complaining sissy. At least this way I know that somebody is interested enough to show emotion, even if it’s disdain. I feel that it is definitely better than apathy.
A few days ago I was having a conversation with a fellow Steemian (who by the way has been here on Steemit for quite some time now). The idea to write this post emerged during our too and fro.
Me: ………………Also am a little upset about people not leaving a comment after reading my stuff. Not exactly upset, just a little sad. I mean some of my articles have more than hundred views but almost no comments. Is it common? I mean I understand that if people don't like my posts, but even then one can always leave a comment just for not liking me. Disagreement is always better than apathy because then you at least know that people give a s***
@barrydutton : You have summed up perfectly what many of us feel here w the problems. It never used to be this way, I am UV this excellent comment. One of the best overall comments I have seen on such things, perhaps ever here, not a page long, covers a lot of ground. Now I am thinking you need to make a post on that.
Me: I am glad you understood me. This is the first time I mentioned it because I was a bit worried about coming off as a spoiled brat crying for attention. The truth is that when I read a post, then I really read it. Some people might not consider it important but I cannot help myself but get into the spirit of the article once I begin it.........
And so it went. Some people might say that you should write only for yourself. To them I could reply that they could start a dear diary conversation in their own diaries. Steemit is a platform where community can engage in meaningful conversations and come to genuinely fruitful conclusions.
For this to happen a we need a more engaging spirit of communication and with people coming out of their comfort zones to take a meaningful look at what others have to say. It also seems like a good idea to simultaneously approach as many good people as you can on Steemit. Sitting behind my desk and just writing posts can only take me so far. I also need to read what others are saying and do my best to add quality replies to their posts. (shit, I am sounding like a preacher. Didn't mean to.)
The fact that we can make money doing so would not only become automatically secondary but also more efficient.
I am going to try and write more about what we can do to make Steemit a valued platform and not just monetarily. So I would like to hear more from you guys about it. Go ahead and add your comments. Tell me what I can write about in my next post and make sure to comment like crazy.
It's a mean sense of apathy. People get pretty cold when it comes to money, and I feel like it's no different. It's not a random period of rest, as if people actually took breaks from their computers. It's not disagreement either, as people here often agree just to make that extra buck too. But I'll give it to you straight. I can actually convince my friends to make these accounts, but if people are gonna act a fool and mess this up before people actually get here, I'm gonna be pissed.

Yes there is that. Hell I might be preaching now but I can slip up too. I mean you have to stay on your toes to not fall into this kind of trap.

I know how you feel. I haven't been here a lot, but when I do things I like to do them properly: I wouldn't feel comfortable just by sharing any kind of content that I do not thing is "quality". I take a lot of time in producing my content (and even curating) because I like people to read the best version of whatever I can write. I'm always insecure about that, because you can always get better at anything you do... but feeling like you put a lot of time and effort into something and not getting results back, it's a little dissapointing.
This might sound a bit snobish, but I have noticed that the majority of the posts on Steemit are of really low quality. How do I know this?
There are certain things you can tell from a post: how long it took this person to create/write it, how long it took this person to come up with that idea and shape it, how long it took them to edit, find good images, pimp that post a little, etc... I've seen posts that are only about a low resolution cellphone picture and not even as much as a caption.
It makes me wonder whether this website is actually filled with people that have and interesting in reading, sharing, discussing, learning from one another... or more with people that are interested in "easy money". What could be the issue? Maybe we're not writing about something people would be interested in? Maybe we need to pick their curiosity?... or maybe we need to sell our souls? I don't know.
Nothing is easy, I am convinced of this, so I also plan to follow the hard path and dedicate the amount of time I must to create something I feel satisfied with. That's the only way we can truly contribute to Steemit.
Let's keep writing!

It is definitely disappointing to see your efforts going unnoticed. I am not sure if there is some sort of code that we need to crack but I know that people have done it before. My understanding is that for newbies like me it is better to add quality comments on good posts and get get noticed by good folks. This way we can first build a sound support system for our posts that we publish.
Also don't worry, there are plenty of good people on Steemit writing good content. But it is important to maintain a connection with them once you we establish it.
Lets stick to what we do best and take this by storm. Happy writing!

I agree with you. Plus that also shows them "good folk" that there are people who not only read but also appreciate their content enough to comment.

1/ I never have much voting power left but I gave this a full 100% UV with what I had left.
2/ I am glad you wrote this post, and glad to see it was only Part 1, with more to come.
3/ Sad to see only 3 votes on this now, including mine after 2 hours and 8 views but I guess that is really what this is about.
4/ You are one of MY most valued commenters on here and likely others feel the same so there is not much I can do but say that like before, to encourage you, many of us are suffering and kinda given up and a lot of it is Steemit politics, that is where a lot of my support was lost.
-- And that is why your comments are valued, and valuable.

I really appreciate you dropping by to read this.
I have to admit that I like Upvotes and the steempower that it can get me. But at the end of the day Upvotes majorly represent content readers appreciation of your post. I am just glad that I got any of them and even more so that I got one from a senior member like yourself :-).
Thanks buddy.

I have given up here with all the collusion of putting my heart into every post, with everything I have done.
There are a lot of collusive people here who preach one thing and practice another with each other and once they decide you did something THEY all holy and mighty don't like, it is over for you and they backdoor message others to boycott you.
I am not convinced Steemit will survive.

Social media platforms are one of the biggest scams of 21st century. They started something that cannot be undone.
Now with emergence of alternative options people will take different routes. Maybe steemit is not the end but rather part of the process or a step in the right direction if you will.
Although I am still hoping for the best here but I would also like to keep some of my options open. Meanwhile I am going to my best here.
