Admiral Keumalahayati was the first woman in the world to ever become an admiral. He was born during the heyday of Aceh, precisely at the end of the XV century. Based on historical evidence (manuscripts) stored at the University Kebangsaan Malaysia and dates 1254 H or around 1875 AD, Keumalahayati comes from the noble family of Aceh ..

No exact historical records have been specified that mention the year of his birth and the year of his death. Estimated, his lifetime is about the end of the XV century and the beginning of the XVI century.
Admiral Keumalahayati is the daughter of Admiral Mahmoud Shah.

His grandfather was named Admiral Muhammad Said Syah, son of Sultan Salahuddin Syah who ruled the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam circa 1530-1539 M.Sultan Salahuddin Syah was the son of Sultan Ibrahim Ali Mughayat Syah (1513-1530 AD) who was the founder of Aceh Darussalam Sultanate.

If viewed from the genealogy, it can be said that Admiral Keumalahayati is a descendant of blue blood or royal family palace. Her father and grandfather had once been a naval admiral.

The maritime soul of his father and grandfather would later have a big effect on his personality. Although as a woman, he still wanted to become a brave sailor like his father and grandfather.

A. Education History

When the teenager, Admiral Keumalahayati get the freedom to choose the education he wants. At that time the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam had a Military Academy named Mahad Baitul Makdis, which consisted of majors of the Army and Navy.

After his religious education in Meunasah (surau), Rangkang (teaching center), and Dayah (zawiyyah / pesantren), because he wanted to follow his father's career as an admiral, he enlisted in the acceptance of cadets at the Mahad Baitul Makdis Military Academy.

He was accepted at this academy and was able to pursue his military education very well. In fact, he achieves with very satisfactory results. As an accomplished student, Admiral Keumalahayati has the right to have the department she wants. He chose the Naval department.

While studying at this academy he had met a more senior marine officer (data about his name is unknown). The introduction continues until the seeds of affection awaken among them. They both end up agreeing to share love and unite themselves into love. After graduating from the Mahad Baitul Makdis Military Academy, both married.

After completing his studies at the Mahad Baitul Makdis Military Academy, Admiral Keumalahayati concentrated on the world of movement and struggle. He was appointed by Sultan Alauddin Riayat Syah al-Mukammil (1589-1604 AD) as Commander of the Darud-World Protocol Palace in the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam. The position is the sultan's belief in him, so he needs to master a lot of knowledge about ethics and protocol.

B. History of Struggle

The story of the Admiral Keumalahayati struggle started from a war in the waters of the Strait of Malacca, which is between the Portuguese troops and the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam led by Sultan Alauddin Riayat Syah al-Mukammil and assisted by two admirals.

Fierce fighting took place in Haru Bay and won by the Aceh fleet, despite having to lose two laksamuya and thousands of soldiers who were killed on the battlefield. One of those killed was Admiral Keumalahayati's own husband who served as Commander of the Darud-World Protocol Palace.
