This is Where You Should Focus 80% of Your Energy on Steemit.

I Heard There are Great Writers on Steemit But They are Not Making Any Steem.

The story will repeat throughout your lives. Super talented people who never get noticed. I don't care if it is a writer on Steemit, a photographer, artist or someone with a great product to sell.

It always cracks me up when I see posts on Steemit claiming the reason people are not successful here is because their posts are not written well or some other lame reason, that is pure bullshit.

Do You Want to Know Why You are Not Successful on Steemit?

It is because you spend all of your time focusing on things that do not produce results. Here is a list of things that do not pay the bills on Steemit.

  1. Writing Quality
  2. Article Length
  3. Fancy Formatting
  4. Flag Wars, yup you read that correct.
  5. Quantity of Posts.

"OMG Randy, you are saying we should write crappy posts. No I am not, keep reading."

You Are Literally Invisible.

What is the 80/20 Principle on Steemit?

There are three aspects to everything you do on Steemit. Here is the list from the video adapted to this platform.

  1. Production- Writing, Graphics and Editing.
  2. Operations- Voting Power, Bandwidth, Payouts etc.
  3. Marketing- Commenting, Following others, Upvoting Others and Being Part of the Community.

Marketing should take up 80% of your time, get noticed.

Where are the Successful Steemians Spending Their Time?

They are spending their time on marketing. Just like in business you can have the best tool but if nobody knows about it, nobody will buy it. The same goes for content on Steemit. If no one knows you exist then no one will upvote your posts.

"But Randy I want my content to look great so that people will like it." My reply "great, do that but spend 5X the amount of time on marketing your content!"

If You are New or Struggle to Be Noticed Here is an Action Plan.

a. Spend 1 hour writing your post.
b. Spend 10 minutes editing your post.
c. Spend 2 Hours sharing your content on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
d. Spend 3 hours per day engaging with other users or also known as building relationships.

Randy I Don't See You Engaging Across Steemit.

I know you think because I don't do it that you think you can get away with it to. Well, I will let you in on a little secret. I have been in this social media game for years and I was part of Steemit shortly after it began. I have put my time in working, earning the privilege to sit back and enjoy the benefits. The long and short of it is that you have not earned your spot at the table yet. Have you ever heard the term, "work smart, not hard"? Put your energy into being seen rather than having a perfect post.

If You Are Not Willing to Put in the Work to Be Successful, Why Should You Be Rewarded?

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.
If you enjoyed what you read here, create your account today and start earning FREE STEEM!
Sort Order:

Main thing there you point out is marketing. If you want to attract people towards you. There should be something that they want. Which is sp. The higher the upvote worth. It'll take less time to be recognized. Thanks for this blog there are some points that I should work on.

Feels daunting trying to start a new account on steemit. Posts that get hundred of interactions on facebook are hard pressed to get over 3 here as a "starter"

Yes. What I observe here is give and take. If you have something to offer than you'll much than you imagine. But if you have nothing than you have to suffer allot.

Your track record is visible.
I can see your posts are straightforward.
You do not have time for SHENANIGANS.
Your posts are not a love story.
Enough said!
Keep on steemin'

Great advice. Yes, you have to work at it in order to get paid.

Very good advices to become successful with steemit. Thank you very much. Right now I am not able to spend 6 hours per day to do your suggested action plan a) - d). Nevertheless I can scale it down to whatever time-frame, which is possible for me.

I'm more like the 50/50 rule. 50% is shameless self promotion, and 50% is my anarcho-capitalist ramblings.

" Spend 3 hours per day engaging with other users or also known as building relationships." Exactamente!! Your view count on this one will be huge, I'll be sending this link a lot

Thank you @Gringalicious! Say hi to the fam for us.

Flag Wars lol

Nice tips but why you don't like flag wars? :d

What a wonderful way to explain things. I had also this question regarding too high price of SBD but I think your explanation makes some sense now.

important point on steemit u share thank for share many new user dont know this point why they are not success in steemit.

Yes the keys are quality content, marketing and you have to create content that when people read it immediately have a connection with it. Regards

all these things are good and very usful, however too many people waste their precious time doing activities every day. the secret I have learnt on this poste about steemit is that if you can socialise with others by engaging them on their blogs, you will gain more success and popularity and you can't engage them without reading their posts and commenting creatively.thank you @hilarski i'll follow you

this is actually some of the soundest actionable advice i've seen for minnows in a while. getting engagement from others by spending time on comments goes a long way. Also at first, I didn't see or think Facebook or Twitter could help. I was wrong, post everything there now - other steemians come to you and upvote :)

Excellent post dear friend @hilarski I totally share your recommendations and tip. I must admit that I will have to adopt more than one
Thank you very much for all these tips, I consider it very valuable and important
I wish you a beautiful day

true enough, you have the follower base, and the reputation.

And its true, discord is a big secret on steem
join the chats, interact
it does get followers then once you get a certain amount it will start to go smoother bit by bit

its great inspiration as well as tips to be a good steemian, focus on that what should we gonna do, keep in mind about marketing of yourself and let them know about yourself.

Thanks for those advices!

But how can someone spend 2 hours sharing a content on social media? Isn’t that done very quickly?

It depends on your skill level. If you share your post only once on FB or Twitter then you already lost.

What strategies do you apply for your marketing?

I couldn't agree with you more! I spend a lot of time now just commenting and I have been using Twitter and fb to share my posts and it works. You can tell when you market and when you don't by the thickness of your wallet. Thanks @hilarski, you make this look easy!😁

wow amazing post friend and you share some brilliant tips i never heard before and i also agree with your thoughts that i promoting our content is one the key things that we are missing most, i will surely try and follow your tips, Stay blessed and thanks for sharing

Brilliant tips! I agree with your action plan, but I spend more than 1 hour just to write a travel article, but it's totally worth it! cheers @hilarski

It totally depends on what you want to accomplish.

One of the best posts ive seen so far on steemit and how to make money!! Thanks for keeping it so straightforward and clean cut @hilarski!

I've been plugging away. I need to set aside a couple hours of studying and marketing a day on Steemit.

It is hard to find time with a full time job and two kiddos.

Someday soon, Steemit may be my full time job.

JGV

I agree it is difficult to find the time but two months of super active promotion and you will be able to do it full time. At least if the Steemit algorithm stays the way it is.

Marketing is a key, I also think that people should make funny, emotional comments. I got noticed by some big steemians after I wrote some funny comments with idea.

Well said, wish I could get the people I brought to steemit to read it. The most wonderful post ever written earns ZERO if you have no followers. No one sees it. No one sees it, no one upvotes it or resteems it. It rolls off the "new" front page in about ten seconds...

Great tips . Too bad iftt is not working with streamian and twitter, that helped me get more exposure.

Holy crap, I just checked and you are right. Bummer!

This is mind bursting.
Iknowledge is key.
Thank you for this insight
I am off to work it out smartly.

Great tips, this kind of info can help me a lot :)

thanks for information on steemit i am not aware about it from now i will takecare of it😊

yes right friend it is a platfrm we focus our energy nice post on steemit .😊

thanks for information that why people are not success in steemit.😁

thanks for information on steemit it helpful for new user 😊

You're talking about marketing outside of Steemit, but wouldn't it be better to focus your time to build a network on Steemit itself?

The audience you get through Facebook and other social networks might just read the article and leave without making an account an upvoting.

not aware of it earliar, thanks for explaining.

yuyguhgsre45r.png

You are right.

Saya suka postingan anda jika ada waktu kujungi blog saya karena saya baru di steemit

Very interesting, thanks for giving us this valuable information on how to have success in steemit.

Waww good story thank you for sharing sir
I really like your post

Thanks for sharing your great post.i also like your sharing ..your are so great person i also like you so much @hilarski

GReat post, I'm a big fan of the 80/20 principle since following Tim Ferris for many years, your totally right that engaging with others if your best course of action here.
You didn't expressly state it, but I've found that engaging with others in steemit chat or discord are very important steps and not just on steemit. I've found little benefit from promoting on Facebook/twitter but spending that same time in the chat platforms has paid back in huge dividends.
I probably shouldn't be criticizing someone like you but just my two cents!

I've been trying to do this marketing of myself on steemit, I just seem to be commenting on the wrong posts I guess..

Any pointers on posts/authors to market successfully with?

This was a great read tho.
Resteemed..

Wow wonderful video.and this informative post.thanks for sharing next post.upvoated @hilarski

yes right man it is a platfrm we focus our energy...Thanks for the information... ...

Nice plan time to get things done ;)

It means , Steemit is not a platform that be called BED OF ROSES
()

like many things I feel I may have arrived too late. those who are established early on have it easier than those of us just getting here. when the flood gates open and everyone rushes to join you can get lost in a sea of millions of voices all saying the same thing. only a few get to stand out. not everyone can make it. someone has to flip the burgers and run the register.

This is a nice piece of advice. Marketing and connecting with others is important here on Steemit!

Again, great tips! They flow like a river!

Thanks for the helpful advice. I have fallen short on marketing in the past but will increase my efforts in this regard.

You absolutely need marketing unless you are Elon Musk

Even Elon Musk needs marketin. His marketing is just on a different level. He goes to TED talks and gives Google interviews. He does product launches. He goes to Burning Man festival to meet other billionaires.

Further to the advice in this post:

My payouts started going up, as did my follower count, when I spent time commenting on others' posts: comments that made it clear I had read and understood the post.

I emphasized the above because it's key. Friendly but vague comments, one that have little or nothing to do with the post, will be regarded as spam.

Don't force yourself. If you read a post and can't think of something to say, just upvote it if you like it and move on.

If you have a string of comments with zero votes, don't be disheartened! Provided your comments relate to the post material, you're still getting your name out. Further to this advice, I remember an old (and successful) telemarketer salesman tell me that his daily goal was to get a hundred "no"s. This motivated him to make a hundred cold calls per day. Surely enough, the "yes"es started to come in.

A hundred comments a day is too high, true, but ten well-informed comments a day is reachable.

The 80/20 rule makes sense. For many content creators, though, it is probably counter-intuitive. We were brought up to believe that "our work speaks for itself" and "if you build it, they will come." Thus, embracing a change in mindset is what definitely needs to happen. As you suggest, it is not about creating a shoddy product - it is about taking steps to make sure that there is a market for that product in the first place.

Randy I Don't See You Engaging Across Steemit.

Actually, he does it! So, if @hilarski can do it, you can do it too!

I think the 80/20 rule is common knowledge by now but it's not common practice and that's the key. You made me review my activity on Steemit Randy and I thank you for that.

I am going to push my marketing even further!

Thank you for this explanation. I'm going to give it a try by scheduling these activities in my calendar.

Thanks for the information sir. this is great writing and useful detail .

Sound advice. Seems to be like any business. First get noticed. Cream always rises to the top in any situation. Some people are naturals at networking. For others it's work. For the people who love networking this is the right game at the right time. Thank you for saying it so clearly.

My success has grown mostly due to marketing, so I second this :).

This is so true. I am new in this community and I have been writing introduction post for a month... That is waaaayyy too long. It's easy to fall down in trap of perfection. From now on I am going to focus on the engaging and see what results I will get. Thank you for this reminder Hilarski!

That's a must follow rule!
Marketing is what makes you succeed in business, people always think that having a good product will make them rich, well if your product is completely different and revolutionary, you will probably do very well, but that´s a case in 1 million.
That´s why you have to work on marketing, because genius ideas don´t come everyday, and you need to pay your bills to survive!

Upvoted for the Hulk Hogan gif alone. Good write-up. Learned a few things. Thanks for that.

Great advice for re-focusing within this community. Thank you @hilarski!

Every time I draw original drawings I can not find any interaction or interest
@hilarski

thanks for this advices i will tak it in my maind

an algorithm should be applied in order to recommend the steemit accounts which have some really awesome contents with excellent skills..
people will give their 200% if this happens @hilarski

@sid9999, I agree with you, Steemit needs a better algorithm to review content and determine quality. But reaching out to others and building relationships here does help considerably.

Good points @hilarski. You can write the best content, but if there is no one to see it then what's the point. This is the same for Youtube, blogging on other websites, music etc. All creative work probably.

easy to say, with the emergence of bots and all that , the community is more about the rich getting richer and the poor praying on whales to get crumbs or if they are blessed they get a big upvote from a whale. but i agree to the marketing aspect of your post ..

I would need to be paid big to watch that flag wars documentary.

I'm in total agreement with you @hilarski. Writing the post is one thing but without marketing yourself and creating bonds with others on discord, well, ** crickets **.

I'm constantly telling my husband that I need to go do marketing for my post.

Is it Hulk Hogan's huge steel balls???

You are a PERFECT example of this concept. Agree or disagree the PROOF is in the pudding!

giphy.gif

This article is an absolute GOLD @hilarski! Thanks for precious reminders!!

Social media is communicating, visiting posts and actually replying with a useful comment.

Attending to replies made to you, people take time to respond to your posts you should make an attempt to build good dialog with them, they enjoy what you do, find out more about them.

Dashing around putting up posts and not knowing the response to content is flying 'blind', assess how the content performed.

Great topic today Randy thanks, a good refresher for the old and sound advice to the new.

Sadly, I realized this later on. But on the upside, I did realize it!
Good advice buddy!

Great advice. Yes, you have to work at it in order to get paid.

... so, very simple: make it like Trump ?? .... well, hopefully not !!

Hi Randy... stright to the point.... loving it. You pretty much going along with @grantcardone however he is more or less saying if you wanna be successful it´s down to yourself to put in 10x the time and efforts so things will change - hence the community noticing you and your content being a lot better then before... by increasing the level of interaction you will increase your status in the community and therefore your own chances of getting noticed and rewarded.

Good job @hilarski. You hit the nail on the head! I can easily relate to this because most of the newbies faces this no doubt. Let me just come out plain, at times i take my time to write a whole lot of things thinking and believing once i post this it's just gonna make some big push, but at the end of the day i get only 2views to my self acclaim beautiful post. Most times i just laugh and i tell myself "you will get there!". We see hundreds of post in hours and if i don't know you or have a thing with you i may likely not want to spare that little time on someone i dont know. On this ground i agree totally with you, because if i know you there's every tendency for me to visit your work once it appears on my feeds. My conclusion on this is that relationship, friendship and connection supersedes good and fancy writing but the place of good content can not be relegated or overemphasized. Thanks for the post. You schooled me.

BECAUSE...[reasons]
I suck at marketing :P Should start doing it more. Thanks for the reminder.

@hilarski thank you 👏🙏

Thanks for the tips! Totally agree with you.

Brilliant! I have been trying to interact with other Steemers on a daily basis, but you just encouraged me to put way more energy into it!

@gringalicious sent me this link. I guess she's trying to tell me something, haha!

Another great post Randy, I am glad to have met you on Steemit. Very good advice.

Ewwww. Facebook.
And some of us are very banned from Twitter, for we did not abide by the terms of the Ministry of Truth.

Interesting post, I agree but I think the amount of steem power you have in your account definitely helps a lot. But most people simply cant afford to put $1000's in their account.
