      For Steem(it) to be a Ponzi, there needs to be a centralised influence who can steal from the users of the site and cash in.

      That's is the one feature that all Ponzi Schemes have in common. Bad Investment...That's your call. Ponzi,...No, By definition it is not.

      What do you see to be the difference between USD and Steem...
