Where You Do See Steemit In 2 Years? - One Thing I'm Worried About.

Steemit Is Incredible.

I have said this many times before. Steemit is incredible and I am truly thankful for the opportunity I have been given. I am grateful for the vast majority of things that happen on, with and for Steemit. We need to remember that Steemit is still young and many things will, can and should be changed so our platform can flourish and grow into this extremely powerful thing we all want it to be. It's a learning process for all of us.

We have amazing tools and websites so everyone is capable of finding information they're after. Numbers of upvotes, flags and all sorts of data. The best part is, that literally everyone can find this information. Even if you're not tech-savvy at all. It all comes down to where you look and what you're looking for.

I don't know everything. Far from it, and I am still learning even though I've been here for 20 months. I have made mistakes and I have failed many times. I have had my fair share of ups and downs and I'm still experiencing that from time to time.

I have done things many times because I personally felt like it was the right thing to do. And within just a few minutes, I've been corrected or realized that it was a mistake. People with more knowledge than me have answered my questions. They have been able to make me aware of things I never understood.

I am sorry for my mistakes, but I am also not more than a human being. I will fail and do many things that others never would've done or things that some people believes are insane or wrong to do. And even though I might not be proud of that, it's also necessary for me to grow and become a better person. Both in life and on Steemit.

What I believe is one of the most impressive things with Steemit, is the willingness to forgive, forget and help those around you. We accept mistakes. We accept that people are different. We accept that some people struggle where others don't. - And that's a wonderful thing.

I will fail and I will not have all the answers. What I hope is that you will not judge me only because of that, like I wouldn't judge you for your mistakes either. What I want, is your support to get those answers and to become a better person. Just like I would try to help you if the situation where the opposite.

And believe me when I tell you this...
The support I've got, felt and received since I joined Steemit have been an incredible experience. I have felt welcome here ever since I joined. I am thankful for all our awesome conversations we've had in the different chats and in comments, and when I've been low, you've always been there for me. It's okay to be different on Steemit. It's okay to express your feelings here. People will always judge you based on many different things, but I have never felt ashamed to talk about my depression, my anxiety or my panic attacks for instance. I have never been afraid to discuss my student debt I have or the passion I have to become a treatment assistant so I can "heal the world" for a little bit.

What I can tell you, is that I haven't felt truly comfortable sharing personal things. Because I've never "been like that" so to speak, but I don't know, that's probably some weird "macho" bullshit or whatever, because everyone is allowed to share whatever they see fit. And people need to cleanse the air and speak about bad things to move on to the next chapter in their lives. - And hopefully, the next chapter will be a better one.

One Thing That Worries Me...

I have always wanted everyone to be on Steemit. I want the entire world to become users on Steemit. I believe Steemit deserves that for being so amazing but I also believe that everyone on the entire planet deserves to be on Steemit. - I want mass-adoption and I truly believe that Steemit would flourish with millions of users.

When I've said things like that, some people have been asking questions like:

  • Why do you want more people here? Aren't you afraid that you will lose your rewards? Do you want even more competition?

I have heard many different questions and some of them have been rather polite and others have been from extremely angry and disappointed people.

Honestly speaking, I hate when people are angry because of things I've said or done... And that's also the main reason for me to always share my own opinions, my knowledge and my own experience when I do things. Because even if I'm at fault or incorrect, it's what I personally have done, said or my own experience... And that shouldn't be a reason for people to blame me. Like I said above, I'm only human. I make mistakes too. The difference between me and many others are the fact that I am not afraid of accepting that or to tell people about it.

  • It's okay to make mistakes. That's how you'll learn.

Yesterday, I watched an interview.

@davidpakman interviewed @teamsteem, and you all know how much I love @teamsteem by now. In this interview, they talked about things I just wrote above... And I felt somehow relieved but I also felt that I got a ton of more power, because I knew I wasn't alone with thoughts like this.

Here's the interview in case you've missed it:
Steemit/dTube EXCLUSIVE: @teamsteem (Guillaume Cardinal) talks cryptos, curation, more

The fact is that we have a limited reward pool. There's not an endless pool of rewards and we will never see 100,000 Steemians with $100,000+ pending rewards at the same time. - That's impossible and at first glance, that is what seems to worry people when you're talking about bringing millions of users to Steemit.

They're afraid that they won't earn a single cent from their contributions due to the crazy amount of competition. And even though I'm trying to understand their feelings and thoughts, it's impossible for me to do that.

What worries me, is the fact that some people are able to grab themselves large portions of the reward pool as it is today, and this is not a debate or a discussion regarding the people or the on-going war or battles. This is just my personal opinion, my thoughts and my feelings.

If one person can take 4% of the entire reward pool today. This person would become an insanely powerful Steemian in a very short amount of time. So the thing that worries me is not the fact that he becomes powerful... What worries me is, that he can do this and if he can do it, many others can do it too... And if they do, Steemit would die.

That would also mean that Steemit would die before we grew, so we would miss out on thousands of really cool things that lies in our future. All due to one persons actions today. That's what really worries me.

If the reward pool was $100 in total and we had 100 people... Everyone would't get $1. Some will always make more than others. So if the reward pool were the same and we had 1000 people instead, the competition would be fierce and it would become "impossible" for people to earn. That's how I interpret their feelings and thoughts. That's how I believe these angry people are thinking. - But they are wrong. Even I know that and I'm not an expert.

If you make $2 from your contributions today, and if you work hard to keep your support. Then you would most likely earn $2 from your contributions further on too. However, if 10 million people jumped on board right now, your $2 would definitely decrease... - But that doesn't mean that your pending rewards aren't worth the same...

It's actually more likely that they would be worth more than that!

The price of Steem and SBD would go up. At the time I'm writing this we're at ~$5 and ~$7. But if we had 10 million more users, we would most likely see the price go up rapidly too. Which makes your content worth more. Your payouts would be worth more than ever before.

Also, you can talk about the "early adopters" all you want. People who joined Steemit just when it launched. All of them whales and dolphins by now. - That's not true. Even though these people had a better chance for starters.

I am not a whale or a dolphin and I would definitely consider myself an "early adopter". I am still just a minnow, but I've had incredible results and had a lot of success too. However, I haven't been as active as I am today, during my 20 months on Steemit. I didn't post between 2 and 4 posts per day.. And truth to be told, you are an early adopter too. Even if you're not the first person to join Steemit.

Steemit is young. We're about to see incredible things. 2018 will be a crazy, cool year for Steemit and for cryptocurrencies. I personally believe that 2018 will be a long "preparation" for 2019. SMTs and all the other cool things we're about to see. Famous youtubers joining @dtube and leaving YouTube. Gamers streaming on @dlive and or instead of using Twitch/YouTube. - I believe this is one big "preparation" and that 2019 will be the true booming year. - So, you're still an early adopter, no matter how you see it.

Why do you want more people here? Aren't you afraid that you will lose your rewards? Do you want even more competition?

Whoever asked that question probably doesn’t understand the power of having more users on the blockchain. If we had ten times as many users as we have now, the value of Steem tokens would likely be more than ten times what it is today.

Anyone who wants to make significant money here should hope for many millions of new users. Metcalfe’s Law is powerful. (Granted, there have been arguments that Metcalfe’s Law is not as valid as, say, Moore’s Law).

Billions of users? Even better.

This is exactly my thoughts too. More people = more value. We should want millions to join, but we're also in the learning process so we can't allow everyone to join at the same time. But it should definitely be our long term goal.

Great post my friend. It is quite skeptical when thinking where and how far steemit can go. So far we are seeing great progress on this platform. People meeting people with similar interests and just the world connecting with various different topics.

Yeah, Steemit is an amazing platform with a very deep pool of talent.

Interesting question. I don't think steemit as it currently is, can support a million more users. There needs to be more infrastructure, more 'glue', before it can scale to those levels. Particularly around content curation and commenting.

I agree with you, but I definitely think that we should have the word "millions" in mind when we're working towards our long term goals.

Definitely... It's a lot better to have the infrastructure in place rather than rush them through when there's a bottleneck or problem.

@hitmeasap,

Salutations! JaiChai here.

Great article.

May you and yours be well and love life today.

Upvoted, continuing to follow and calling on @originalworks and @steem-untalented upvotes for your post.

Namaste, my friend.

JaiChai

Thank you very much, I appreciate it. :)

I personally stopped inviting people to this platform awhile ago....for some of the same concerns you expressed. That being said, I think lack of VISIBLE leadership in these matters leads me to two conclusions

  1. No shits are given, already rich so who cares?
  2. part of the problem
anyways, enjoyed your post and forge your own path, you are not alone and you are not the only one aware this is no safe space

A lot look at the now instead of what Steemit could become. For a lot of us, Steemit is a first of its kind - a social media platform that pays. So it's understandable that the thoughts of many would be to want less competition. After all, many new Steemians are unfamiliar with the concept of crypto. But eventually, they will understand that the greater the demand, the higher the price would go up. 2018 is still starting and we're already starting to rise :) This should be a great eye-opener.

For me, people will always see things differently, so its not bad expressing your opinion, am still trying to find my place here as an early adopter...(smiles). And i believe the more people come into the platform, the better it is for the growth of the community.

Very good article, the little bugs are what makes me nervous, like when i transfer money and put the cursor in the name field and it takes extra time for it to populate. Overall though I see much more positive than negative.

I just cannot understand why we there is not basic facebook like up app for steemit so that the content you produce does not constantly get hidden from new content in your own feed. Probably because i am NOT a programmer! hahha good thoughts -PEACE

Thank you!
Yeah, I've actually experienced the same thing. And because I used the wrong memo when I transferred money to Bittrex a couple of months back, I only send small amount to Bittrex ever since. Both due to my mistake with the wrong memo, but also due to the nervousness whenever I transfer funds from my Steemit account elsewhere. :D

I think the whole thing with blockchain and especially steemit is having to learn to think in a new way. Instead of being competitor's fighting we can truly help each other. Scarcity has have a big influence on our way of thinking in a negative way. I think you are right about the growing potential but I also think a part of the worth is to learn how to think and behave in a world were sharing is growing.

I seem to have a bit difficulty to put the right words into this. As these are some subtle and abstract concepts and English is a second language for me.

That is an interesting perspective. Although don't you think it will being like pop stars and how they take huge portions of the follower base compared to everyone else? I mean some people just get way more then everyone else on Facebook and other sites. Some just manage to do it.

In all honesty, I don't want someone like Rihanna to come here, posting a selfie and get away with $15,000 in rewards. I want content to be rewarded and not authors for who they are. However, I do understand that we would upvote the shit ouf of Rihanna's selfie, in hopes that all her followers would eventually jump on board too. - But I would still not want the users to get rewarded for who they are, but for the content they share.

I think Steemit needs to explode this year before Zuckerberg goes crypto

Good point and definitely something to keep in mind. Mark is thinking about crypto, and that could be a true competitor to Steemit, but I don't think he'll ever be able to pull off the things Steemit have done. (or will do).

he wanted to buy snapchat and because they declined he basically said fuck you and copied it. Now he wants to do it with crypto. With all that money he has he can prolly gain on crypto much faster than any company

I JUST JOINED STEEMIT THIS MONTH, AINT GOT NO WORRIES AND DONT CREATE UNNECESSARY PANIC.

I like you post, very very good

I've been so afraid of Steemit growing, but this eases my fears, and makes sense. I'm glad there are forward thinkers on this platform.
