My plan is to use my street activism (mainly speaking with signs and with a megaphone) in Googleville (Mountain View, California) to bring people to my website, and to use my website to bring people to steemit. I will follow anyone who follows me and is not a resteem bot, until a person demonstrates that he is following me for some purpose other than to be in community with me. People who put too much into my feed will also be unfollowed (even if the posts are otherwise wonderful), as will people who resteem more than occasionally. Anyone who spams any thread that I see will be muted with zero tolerance. Muting will also be used to permanently neutralize anyone who is here for selfish reasons, to remove such people from my universe; such people are an energy drain and are a dead weight burden on those of us who want to build community.
If you think that I should modify the above policy in order to build community, please let me know. If you also want to build community, consider adopting a similar policy. We could even negotiate and publish a policy produced by consensus that people who want to build real (unselfish) community here could follow en masse.
I am posting this because @freebornangel just told me about https://steemworld.org/@ideafarm. When I went there, I could see that I wasn't following many of you who are doing so much to be in community with me. Apologies!
If you authorize steemauto.com to vote for you through steemconnect you can auto vote people you want to keep up with with at a lower vote weight than 100%.
This will give you a list to read and more votes without using all your voting power.

Thanks for the tip. Right now I'm trying to get my feed cleaned up so that I'm (really) following everyone who is giving me community and don't have to wade through the spam generated by all of the resteem bots. Focusing on "being there" for people now. After I'm on top of that, I'll work on being a better curator, if it is worthwhile given my miniscule SP.

Even when the ui rounds down payouts less than .02 you still get the vests attached, so curation does build value for you.
It also gets your name on the radar of folks that watch who votes for them.
Until you get the slider, self voting posts, but not comments, shouldnt turn anybody off, either.

Oops. You're right. Self voting comments would piss people off. I've done that on occasion.

Its not a big deal until you have that slider, until then earning rewards is difficult and folks tend to take that into account.
Self voting a comment to get it higher than a bunch of spam comments is still acceptable.

You're advice has been very helpful, @freebornangel. Like that of an angel! (Are you????) :)

Not an angel, but the angel.
I bring a message of freedom.
I try to help all that want it.
I got the moniker in a county jail and it has followed me everywhere i take it.
I lost my religion in the same place, to an old jew.
He opened my eyes to beliefs that i had accepted uncritically.

Now I'll try to open your eyes all of the way. The old jew was a fool. Religious beliefs are best viewed as neither fact nor fiction. Each religious narrative is a MODEL. The model gives us a way of understanding Higher Power and of understanding our place in the scheme of things. The model puts these big ideas into human terms, so that we can have an understanding that enables us to live successfully.
My problem with jails is worse than yours. In my case, it is the county jail that follows me everywhere.
