Hello, Steemians, Steemizens, Ladies and Gentlemen !!!
I give you What SteemIT could ACTUALLY become,
If the social in social media is revived and creativity is brought back in the community.
TL;DR skip to Rant OFF :D and total video time is 15 mins, so watch that PLEASE !!!! image is quickly added since vids didn't count fr some reason
I need two minutes to rant out, I'm tired of the "flag wars" "whales wars" "bot wars" "curation rewards" "rewards curves" "comment rewards" "game theory" and "we need more users".
To address each point vaguely from last to first.
We have enough, we NEED activity and a GOAL, or at least to have everybody moving in a direction, not being a judge in a soccer/football match showing the flag card.
Game theory is for rats in mazes, we are humans and we can build whatever we wish, that is also a problem, but it's easier to solve a problem by stepping back rather than fighting on a ring, taking part in a loosing battle for both sides.
Comments can be easily rewarded if people pay attention to them, sadly we are pushed into the new, the trend and whatnot, stop and think for a second how much has been said and how little has been read, how much has been said and how little has been done too :)
Sure the rewards and power might be a problem, it's disheartening to recieve 0.001STEEM as a reward and "earn" 2 steem per month "curating" I agree that needs a serious conversation and it shouldn't be put in the box labeled they want more rewards and are entitled. Dear bernie, your political career should have taught you more.
Wars are fought over gains for the most part, resources, attention(here and in media, it's still a social-media), even women.
So if you can cut of the cancer in the root, which means start living naturally, eating healthy and being truly alive(not bound to a chair or have a bot to mine rewards) your life will be enough and every good tiding will be a god send, you wouldn't go to war, because that will cause pain to yourself, knowing that you are destroying something others cherish.
Sure moderation is welcome and a good idea in any conversation, that is the only way to have a productive outcome and sometimes even the only way for two opposing and distant "fractions" to find a middle ground. Peace is a though thing, wars are a tough question too, the world is filled with war, but also beauty.
Can't we all just get along, can't we stop pointing fingers, stopping to think for a while what our responsibilities are will save us a lot of headaches. So please stop getting looped in the same old conflicts, conflicts rarely bring out resolutions, mostly death and decay. With everything good swept under the rug. A prime example is people misunderstanding and labeling others for what they house within themselves, but are unable to look for any number of reasons, fear, sadness, pain, trauma, need I go on. Stop treating others like a piece of meat, stop looking for rewards, stop just stop, we will all be better off.
Things are the way they are because we have either let them go on or because we have MADE them this way, either way throwing blame and finding victims/playing the victim part won't help anybody.
Rant OFF
I've been meaning to share all my ideas on the ways Steemit CAN be updated but those above topics have drained me for at least a week and I'm a bit weak from it. It's time to reverse the trend and come back with some hard punches.
Outlines
Since the topics are many and I'm not sure how it would be best to proceed I'm at another juncture where I have to step up or shut up. It's time to do my challenge30 and write every day I suppose, commenting doesn't receive recognition. I will leave a poll in the comments here and outline how I will post. If you think some topics are more important I will bump those up. If it works, I will return to blogging and finish up on my 90+++ planned posts.
First of all Economy
Social or Market economy, @snowflake has a wonderful proposition, supported by many and overall a very well fleshed out concept, I'm not sure I like the separation in "classes" and the removal of rewards.
@krnel is also trying to shed some light in this conversation.
@ats-david has given his ideas on the hardfork and reward structures. There are other notable mentions, but I'm afraid I'm "spamming" already.
Personally I'm the least versed in this topic, but it seems like the most important, if I am to offer my views I have to read only this since the pages stack up quickly and the comments are so much, i anted to do a HardFork post but sadly I can't put in so much information, I've read the post, the comments, the ideas and after a while, my mind burst from all the concepts.
Steemit UI (User Interface)
This is the main theme I would like to run, since I'm well read on design and such, also given my sleepless nights and my social-less life :D I KNOW A LOT about Internet Sites :D
So going forward I will mostly post around this topic until I get my message across, I have at least 5-6 posts to make on:Additional layer of ideas for new APPS and uses for STEEM and or SteemIT,
- Additions to SteemIT(InTerface)
- App and functionality ideas for the upcoming and already announced/completed projects refer to Steem Tools or my comment AT What is driving the price of steemit downward
Those will be all the bullet points are what will follow in the next posts, and afterwards the highest voted/interest topic.
Now I will show you in a few videos what I mean, First of all the Site is VIMEO, THE BEST platform for videos ever(in the history of the internet)
First stop Steemit could be LEGEND
Second Stop - grow the community like the alps and STEEM ON like the train :)
Third Stop - Save those whales :) "They" are people too
I'm cutting it short for now. I want to post and I've been sidetracking for a while, it's time for me to fly, might edit later
Cheers guys make me proud :)

Comments, unfortunately, are not structured to encourage social interaction...limiting them to a depth of 6 makes it more or less impossible to interact in any meaningful way, imo.

no worries, first off it's going to be replaced with a unlimited structure in a few days, second you can just spam the final level, but in a way comments need a uplift of their own, so far, they are just there, nothing special about them, buuut you can make comments as big as posts, so you can edit them, again unlimited edits are due next hardfork(should be in one day)
Still don't let that stop you, the problem for me is that the chances of seeing a comment are low, sometimes it's just a single view or 4,5, unless you are over a trending post, where people are opening the thread and reading with interest(how many are there :D)

A lot of food for thought, @j3dy
Thank you.

:D another problem with comments is nobody checks back, we are really decentralized, having no center, we have to use outside apps like chat and whatever else. Time to see how you've been up to

If I understand you correctly, I have to agree. We respond to an article and then move on - time does not always permit social interaction, although I do have regular exchanges with several steemers...perhaps it takes longer to develop relationships than we like?

That is normal, and it's so true, I've been battling the "feed" for months and it never ends :D I suppose most of the people here are "working" so they are busy and can't pay attention to everything. Attention is limited.

I hear you!
I'm reaching that stage of "can we just stop arguing about what kind of paint brush we each get and just get on and PAINT the house?"
Sure there are some annoying curation/rewards/flags things going on, but the overall platform is full of opportunities. I've already seen a few being floated around in comments and posts, and I am sure there are many more to come... if this is going to be a successful "social channel," there's a LOT of work too still be done on the UI and on the features... and then there are lots of potential add-ons that can be integrated under "Steemit, Inc." to help provide revenue for the underlying business model... while till staying decentralized.

no ads, I need anti-ads advocates :D
Since I'm a bit fed up with how things are going I thought yeah, I'm painting the house :D, so at least I can say I tried and gave my 2 cents. I'm not sure about decentralization anymore, that seems like a lot of work and a lot more would be necessary to maintain all the "fronts". I would rather see the big guys gather round and work it out, there are some killer apps that aren't supported or finished, built out of people's free time, I'd like to see some integrated with the main platform that would save them some time on building those particular functions. eSteem is better than steemit :D. Decentralize would mean everybody could make changes I would like some options for payouts, rewards distributions at least 2/3 options per each

No ads! Ads are one of the most overused and gradually ineffective ways to (not) generate revenue. A few dollars per 1000 page views doesn't amount to a hill of beans, anyway. Killer apps that charge a very small commission (a crowdfunding app, maybe a non-profit/fundraising app, an Etsy/eBay style peer-to-peer marketplace) not only create a better business model to back the Steem coin... it makes the project attractive to investors.
Ads are just the lazy person's easy answer. And they don't WORK.

Let's get more people on board with that, rather than the usual well lets get more people on a broken boat that is sinking :D and then we can stick some ads on top so we plug the holes :D
I have to say I despise ads and I love the free while paper background we have here, no screams shouts and most importantly girls in lingerie, that adds to my procrastination :D

I really try to stay away from commenting on posts regarding flag wars or whale wars because I don't really care much about it since it doesn't really directly affect me. But, since you obviously put a lot of though in this, a comment is surely warranted. While it dictates the direction of the platform, it really defeats the purpose of being "decentralized".
Apologies if I abstain from taking sides, though I will say this: Compassion is key. Everyone has their reasons for doing what they're doing, and it's just wrong to dictate someone to change their line of thinking forcefully. Let's not be sheep and decide on our own how we want to live our lives. If everyone else is receptive, then that's great, but if not, we can't force them to think otherwise.

never said anything. I think nobody got the message I tried to convey. The idea was. GROW the community, and make it Legendary :D, I really liked the way Ray did his thing with the skating, the second is a expansive view of the Alps and it's a mind blower for me at least, then it's a whale song so we don't pitchfork them :D I'm on neither side and that is a mistake maybe, but I do want something good to come out of it all!!
That's the TL;DR I suppose I shouldn't start off with a rant and expect people to fit 2-3 themes in their heads.
My idea was to bring some light to what can be changed and improved, most importantly for me it's economy, UI, and the Steemit or some extra apps.
Thanks for stopping by after all :)
I'm off for now :)

Oh, yeah, the rant was what I commented on. I really try to stay away from commenting on the economy and community these days. I've had my fair share of rant back when I was new here, so I guess it's normal to go through that phase. These days, I just try to focus on the positives here and trust that it'll help work things out. I mean, it's cool to voice the sentiments that you wrote. But, in the grander scheme of things, it's sad to think that positive sentiments like these are lost in the overall conversation.
Back then, I was voicing my opinion regarding commenting and interaction, but only a handful of people noticed and the ones I'm addressing didn't even bother to read it. It's hard, considering the effort we put into writing our posts, but it's the current reality. People only listen to the influencers in the community, and don't pay any mind to personal opinions all that much. It's a sheepish mentality, but it's a prevailing notion. I really do wish that it wasn't the case, and I believe many others do as well.
So, instead of stressing about the negatives, let's just try to focus on the positives and fortify it :D Like the good work that you do in shining a spotlight on posts. That's a level of curation that not even guilds are capable of. Knowing that someone took the time to sum up their work really boosts other authors' morale. Leaving thoughtful comments and actively interacting on posts is also a criminally underrated activity on this platform. You do all that, and that should be the ones that are celebrated :D

come on reality, I've always loved you, but yeah you are hating quite a bit I suppose, it's interesting matrixdweller survived the slew of flags, btw why are you actively taking from your time to post and "spam" you are taking note of comments, but still spamming some of the newbies, looooool can't believe hate speech is a thing, I just started thinking at it got funny, hate is far worse and dangerous than hate speech, at least one is supposed to let the steam off, still it wouldn't be good to do it every day.
Btw I checked the links but i saw it's anti-steemit-propaganda :D I do wish the electricity was used for something good, but I suppose you aren't part of the problem, there are many worse "players" around, why not start fresh btw, why care about bernie and the stupid politics, just let things slide from time to time and don't fight fire with fire, it's a bit too late, but maybe you will be free from the "net" most people are stuck in daily :)
