Detecting Fake Amazon Reviews --> Detecting spammy steemit posts!

in steemit •  7 years ago

I'm currently taking a class in college called Natural Language Processing.

In this class, we learn about how to process text and understand the meaning of text using statistical methods and large datasets. Some of the more common applications of NLP are machine translation (Google Translate), chatbots, and question answering systems like IBM's Watson.

One really cool application comes from this video I had to watch for class:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/video/detecting-fake-reviews/
It's about detecting "fake" reviews from amazon. Essentially there are all of these things about accounts that make them suspicious and they consider reviews from suspicious accounts more likely to be "fake".

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was that steemit desperately needs something like this. I believe that steemit has good content on it somewhere, but everywhere I look it's just filled with SPAM and it's not going to stop until it's no longer profitable.

P.S. If you have time, please watch the video and leave a comment stating how well you think the ideas presented there could be used to get rid of steemit spam!
