In case you missed it

There has been a mini war unfolding on Steemit involving @dollarvigilante (Jeff) and a whale @berniesanders.

If you haven't been following, Jeff exploded onto the steemit scene just over a week ago writing a post that netted him $15k. He went on to make several posts about how easy it was and how he was going to be doing all of his future writings here on steemit.

That didn't seem to rub too many people wrong at first.

But then...

Jeff put out a post that many before him had about how to make money on Steemit. He seemed to add his own flair to the same tired old material but that rubbed one whale the wrong way, @berniesanders.

Bernie decided that it was time to stop the spread of the same recycled material and decided that Jeff's post would be the one he would start with. Bernie decided that it deserved to be downvoted. That downvote and subsequent comments started a vicious cycle that caused many followers to join in the downvoting as well. The downvoting dropped the post's value from $3k all the way down to $100 in a matter of hours.

In response, Jeff put out a post basically poking fun at all the reasons that people were saying Jeff is an example of all that is bad with Steemit and about how he thinks the whole system needs to change because one whale can basically make or break a post even though hundreds of people are upvoting it.

The feud is bringing some very important questions to light...

Do whales have too much power?

Should downvoting be eliminated?

Do celebrities have an unfair advantage because it can become a popularity contest?

What do you think, does the system need to change to give whales less power and smaller guys more of a voice?

Let's hear the people speak!

But, if system give less power to the whales, who will give a smaller guy more od a voice... it is not so simple. you can't just take someone's investment

I agree. The best system has the whales weeding through and voting or a vast array of topics and authors. Anything that gets this away from a sounding platform for celebrities to get richer gets my vote.

there hasn't been any war, one expressed, as many others, his discontent regarding a particular post and flagged it. That's it. If it was a war, all post would get flagged.

while one can argue over the definition of "war", I think it is still easy to understand the gist of the post
