12 Suggestions For Steemit Developers and Why We Need A Dedicated Notifications Button Like Facebook

in steemit •  7 years ago

Steemit is a great place, where people are creating great contents and awesome interactions with other steemians. But coming from other polished social media sites, new users often notice the lack of certain features that are readily available on other social media sites like Facebook. And one major feature is the lack of dedicated notifications button like Facebook, for-example recently i mentioned a few user names in my article and they do not have any idea that someone used their name in the content. Sure people can use third party browser extensions or use the notifications features provided by Chrome, Firefox or Opera and others. But those things do not provide the features that a giant site like facebook have, Some will say that they got the money and have over 2 Billion user base, plus they also developed these features in the last decade or so. But here are some of my suggestions about steemit which the developers can listen to and implement it, if they can?

Here are the 12 suggestions or features that i want to have on the steemit platform, that will benefit the users and the site as well.

1Please make a dedicated notifications button like Facebook, where we can see who mentioned our user name in some article or in comments as well. Plus we will also be able to see who followed us and who upvoted our contents or comments, and what rewards are we getting for those upvotes. If someone links back to our contents we can also see that in the notifications, also include sound alerts for different notifications and lastly also give us the ability to turn on/off certain types of notifications.
2Make suggestions about similar or interesting profiles to follow, like what Facebook does with their pages and friend suggestions. Developers can also provide a way to follow only a specific post or article and their comments, if it is of more value to the reader, rather than following the whole profile.
3Developers can make a separate resteem tab, so that we can see the original contents of the profile in a different tab. Make resteem count available in the preview and the names of those who resteemed it as well.
4In Editor mode please provide full support for WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) for an easy article formatting options to newbies. Instead of using steemimg give us the ability to directly upload pictures to the site, you can also provide us the feature to edit uploaded pictures as well. Make emojis available in the editor for both content and comments. Surveys and polls should be included in the post editor, allow caption for images, include copyright free images in the site directly.
5Enable users to customize the look of their profiles, Enable us to create custom feeds. Allow users to create certain type of groups, just like Facebook, where users will be able to meet certain like minded steemians.
6Create a system for automatic upvoting, where users will be able to enable auto vote for those who creates meaningful awesome contents. Many people are already doing this with bots, but my suggestion is that provide a level playing field for everyone.
7Give users the power to ban certain type of spammers from commenting on their articles again, who only comments like follow me back and useless stuff like that. Create auto signup of Steemit.com users for Steemit.Chat and then integrate the chat feature into steemit.
8Allow users to present different dashboard look for their profile, Include advance search options, not just Google Search, where people can see posts with many different options such as most upvotes, post time, author reputation and more.
9Show suggested posts at the bottom of the article, provide RSS feeds subscription option directly on the site, allow users to sort articles by reputation. Give the users a way to find undervalued articles easily.
10Create a referral or affiliate system where existing users can recruit new users and in return they will get SBD or Steem Power, this will enable the platform to grow at a rapid pace. Increase curation rewards for those who upvotes Minnows and promotes their quality contents, this will not discourage new users and Minnows will stick to the platform.
11A reason must be provided for flagging a certain article, give the option to the users so that they can specify that which language is used in the article. Many internet users will want to stick to the core steemit site, instead of going into 15 different sites which perform various tasks of steemit, so if you can integrate all the features in the main site that would be nice.
12Allow users to send direct messages to other steemians, but at the same time charge the sender some SBD or Steem Power, so that the system cannot be abused.

These are some of the features that i am looking forward to get in steemit soon from the developers, what is your take on this and what kind of new features you think should be available here on steemit. Use comments section below and express yourself, if you think that some vital features are missing from the community site and should be included here, upvote, resteem and follow me @jzeek for more cool stuff thanks.

These are very valid suggestions. One of my concerns with steemit is how slowly updates are happening. I have no idea how many developers there are, but it doesn't seem like a lot.

Some great suggestions on here, @jzeek! Very thorough. I think these features would help grow the SteemIt user base. As a Minnow, there is a lot to learn and any tools/features are appreciated.
