I cant even pay my rent at the end of this month because my Employment Insurance has not yet fully come in yet ! In generel the idea is that the market will always find the best way. I think @karenmcketsie should not worry about downvotes and just keep going strong.
I personally have many posts close to 0, that I myself find great contributions to humanity, but its not always the market agrees with the creator. The beautiful thing about steemit is that it is a free market and it will find its own balance over time.
Right now the wealth on steemit is concentrated on very few hands, so the market is very biosed toward those few people personal preferences, over time this will change to reflect the more generel public, ones steemit goes mainstream.

I agree with @smooth operation on people who were too much on trending page every day, but not to those people who reach trending 1-2 times and they get flagged!

you know, i came into this post expecting to largely disagree. And i do. But this is not a terrible point. I still think @smooth and others who are downvoting are doing good for the platform generally (and i think the people getting the DV's are far more often people who are frequent high earners than people like you who rarely make much money on posts.) I don't think it would be a bad idea for the people doing the downvoting (contraty to what you might have heard, they aren't taking orders from me) to look at how often the person in question has had a high payout in the past XXX days or something.
That said, a big part of the solution to the problem "all my posts make under a dollar in a given month" is either to change the reward curve (which i support) or failing that to start downvoting posts that are benefiting from highly superlinear payouts.

I'm sorry that happened to you karen.
Just this morning some of us were arguing with smooth because he did the same thing to another new member. It was the first time since they had ever reached trending in the month that they have been posting. They had written an awesome post that 11 of us resteemed which shows how much the post impacted certain people. It had been at $40 when I last looked, and Smooth shot it down to $20 stating that it was voted up by too many whales.
Smooth doesn't consider how often if ever the person has had a trending post, how new they are to Steemit, and how much other people have shown their true appreciation for a post (by resteeming or lots of comments).
Hopefully we will see you back here again after you have taken a much needed break.

Karen, take it from me, who has been downvoted by whales before: if this is your first time experiencing it, just learn from it. No one likes getting flagged, and I was recently flagged by @transisto. My post had an absurd amount of comments, like over 100. You know what my reaction was? "Meh, whatever". I ignored it, looked at as a learning experience, then moved on.
I realize you are very badly wounded, as most people are the first time they get downvoted. But don't leave the platform because of one flag. You can choose to ignore it and continue to post whatever you want.
No one is immune from flags, that's just how Steemit was designed. That's my tough love for you.
Look at it this way, your post made way more than mine even though the one that @transisto flagged of mine made it to #2 trending page with only an $8 payout. Yours was more successful than mine, so in a way, it's all dependent on what you're comparing yourself with.

nothing to do with price it just gets distributed to others. 25 go from here to some minnows lets say all posts. Price is based on value and speculation. Meaning What STEEM can do and what people think it can do. That's why 5 months ago people were making 8k payouts, because steem was worth 1.5 usd now those people are mostly gone and the price has dropped because of the lack of hype development and whatever else, fagg wars :) I mean flag :D and disregard for the little guy because everybody is rotating on a circle their 5-10 favorites while good curators are making 1-2 sbd and upvoting for .001 noob posts are making 0.001 :D 0.008 so 0.00 up to maybe a dollar. btw why not take a break with curation :P it's nice seeing the good posts. I'm one to be able to go on for days. If you don't need the income and you shouldn't really bank on it any time soon :D you can see the world of steemit, photographs, poems, music, musings such and such. Hi @karenmckersie I rarely get on Steemit anymore and have been powering down for months because of this very thing. It is ridiculous that @smooth down voted your post. The unfairness in the voting format here was an issue from day one and to tell you the truth Steemit had / has so much potential but various things have pissed so many users off I don't honestly feel that Steemit can recover from it. I stopped posting a couple of months ago and every time I think of posting again I quickly realize it would be a waste of my time so I don't. Good luck to you Karen and damn you @smooth.

I can understand that this situation is getting very strange and it's pretty normal that you get upset with this. You speak a lot of truth here Karen, all the way thru this post on so many levels.
To DV you for those reasons, as someone (like you said) who invests so much time here like many of us have -- and not get much in the way of payouts, also like you said, is a travesty.

I've only been part time because I was working full time but my job let me go on Friday so I've been taking the day to read and comment. I don't think I will create a blog post more than 2 - 4 times in a 24-hour period because it seems excessive - but that's just me.
I've been advocating a review of flags from the beginning especially since it potentially affects revenue. IMHO, flags should only be used for the most serious offenses: plagiarism, abuse, and SPAM. Everything else is subjective and needs review. To be flagged because someone thinks you made too much on a post is bullshit.

As you know, I'm relatively new here and I'm reading more post about this "issues", but I don't understand the real reasons that are "back" of the flags. They are abusing steemit as this group member using bot to increase the rewards but when someone else use the bot they downvote them. They comment and upvote each others post also. Your post was not downvoted "for no reason". The reason was explained. Its reward was too high in my opinion based on bad decisions by whales to pile onto a few posts and push the rewards to extremely high levels.
You may say, "It was only $50", except for the fact that at this time $50 is an extremely high reward on this platform. At the moment I'm writing this there are only 9 posts making $50, out of hundreds of posts and thousands of comments all sharing the same reward pool.
Complaining about getting "only $25" is absurd and offensive to the majority of the user base, many of whom (including those not even here any more) find this platform terrible because despite their perfectly good non-abuse, non-plagiarized posts, they struggle to make $1, and sometimes even struggle to make $0.01. $25 is also an extremely high reward, relative to the overall reward pool. All of which is in large part due to bad whale voting that concentrates all the rewards on a relatively few posts.
None of this is intended to suggest that you are doing something wrong, or are unwanted. I'm personally happy to see the outpouring of support you have received, including many donations. That's great! The reward pool, and expecting one blog post to earn a very high share of it (even higher than the large share you still ended up earning), are not the only way to be rewarded in a community like this as you have seen.
I hope you will reconsider leaving. Obviously you add a lot to the community and are appreciated (whether you believe it or not, that includes by me).
Nevertheless, I will still be downvoting this post as I don't believe that complaints about not earning enough are valuable contributions (at all) and should themselves be rewarded. Especially when those complaints are about a post that even at the reduced level was still one of the highest earning posts on the site.

The valuing of a post raises many subjective value calls. I understand your sentiment very well (too well). I find it unthinkable that a relatively flippant post can be worth $50 whilst a post on which I spent a huge amount of time over a series of days and gets on page 1 of a google news search gets $1.50. My subjective value model screams at this, especially with the community so sanctimoniously decrying fake news (which they spend more on than 'banal truth'). There are worse cases of intra-voting by whales on lame posts which one could target.
Penalising @karenmckersie is, however, again in my subjective valuation model, going to denigrate your argument and impose punishment upon the innocent. She is not the perpetrator of any crime other than being a popular and valued member of this community who has an evidently very kind disposition.
Subjective valuations will, more often than not, meet with disappointment. It's just the way the world is.
To penalise her for receipt of votes is counter-productive. It is the creator of the malaise which needs to be seen for what it is ... that malaise is the profiteering from the work of others to the degree that is possible (emphasis upon 'to the degree that is possible'). It is morally corrupt and ethically indefensible. William Wilberforce was heralded for the banning of such malfeasance a great many years ago.
Railing at Facebook and Google whilst perpetrating the same strategy is commonly known as hypocrisy - it is the hypocrites who should be brought to account, rather than the innocents.
I, for one, am delighted that @karenmckersie, who has contributed a great deal to steemit, is standing up for herself. I wish you no ill-will @smooth and empathise enormously with what you are standing for. The reaction to your sense of violation of valuation norms is, I believe, misdirected. I would stand right beside you in any discussion to rid steemit of this curse called self-servitude.

The real point of all this must be the addressing of the malaise at large, rather than an isolated incident. You're always a nice and positive force in this community and I'm sure many people would miss you!
I know this place isn't always fair, but that's because it's regulated by no one and everyone. Humans make many mistakes and differ too much to agree on everything. This platform just represents that.
I was very sad yesterday, after seeing the results for the photography challenge. I felt my flower pictures were way better than the ones that were picked and I was thinking I might aswell not join in anymore. That's just a moment of crappy feelings though, those moments pass.

When I first entered into this platform in early stages the instructions was simple.. Post your goods and others will see and upvoted if they like downvoted if they don't like of think that is offensive or whatever.
The platform is giving you the voting weapon as you start and you can make it a superweapon or keep it week.
This weapon you can use it as you will.. It is not forbidden of using it...
Of course the victims have the right to complain. Like always.
But that's another point of view. I am a weak player too but I see things like it is not like I want to be for my own benefit. Of course all this victims when they are getting the power are becoming worse but that is another part of the story..
