[Steemit] Don't Worry About Rewards...Focus On Quality

in steemit •  7 years ago

It's interesting to think about. Earning rewards in cryptocurrency for sharing ideas and exploring who we are at the same time.

Steemit allows everyday people like you and me to be a voice in this dark, noisy world. We get the opportunity every day to shine the light into other's lives, enhancing their mindsets and their well-being.

I will be forever grateful for Steemit and all that it provides to the average joe. The end-user who has been searching for so long for something to work online.

A place where one can be creative, serving their soul with nourishment through innovation, while at the same time getting paid for their efforts in order to provide for themselves and their family.

As I sit back and reflect on this notion, I realized how thankful I am for Steemit. Even though the platform is less than 2 years old at the moment, it has dramatically changed my life for the better.

The inspiration for this post was birthed from pure gratitude. A thankful heart that is yearning to give back after looking around at what has been given to me.

I am going to share ideas with you today regarding Steemit rewards. What exactly is a reward and how is it useful? Why it is important to not focus on the reward but instead put all your time and attention into quality content.

How Steemit Pays Us for Our Content

Steemit is the most generous social network I've ever been part of simply because of the reward system woven into it's ecosystem.

End-users like you and I, have the ability to earn rewards based on the content we supply to the Steem community. We are often referred to as Steemians.

The word content is used to describe the material that we contribute to the community in terms of an article, a comment, a video blog, or even photos.

Posting content is something that people have been doing since the genesis of social media many years ago. The difference between the other social networks and Steemit, is that when you post content here, you have the ability to earn rewards from the second you hit the publish button.

The main way that we get paid on Steemit is through upvotes. When people see your post and gain value from it, they will more than likely hit that up arrow at the bottom of the post.

When that happens, they are using their account's voting power which in turn gives you, the author, a reward that is paid out in either Steem Power or SBD which stands for Steem Backed Dollars.

Voting power is mainly determined by the amount of Steem Power your account has accrued over time. The more Steem Power you own, the more power essentially that you have over voting, which then allows you to control how large a reward percentage you are willing to share with someone for their efforts.

Keep in mind, just because you upvote someone, that does not mean that it is subtracting Steem from your account. You are simply using the voting power that your account has accrued over time. The larger amount of Steem Power your account has, the bigger reward potential for whomever you decide to upvote.

For instance, I received an upvote from @jerrybanfield on one of my posts recently. The post was called, My Divine Spiritual Awakening where I shared my testimony of how I came to know Christ.

enter image description here

I was really proud at that moment because @jerrybanfield is someone who I highly look up to and respect within the Steem community.

I have a strong hunch that Jerry and his wife @laurabanfield do not focus on the rewards they earn. They focus on the quality of their content and how many lives can be positively impacted by their contributions to the community.

Jerry not only upvoted my post, but he left a thoughtful comment to go along with it:

enter image description here

If you guys have not followed @jerrybanfield, do so right now as he is always sharing his knowledge and his heart with as many people as he can.

Two other people that come to mind right now within the Steem community are @joeparys and @axios. Both of these gentleman are extraordinary at producing videos and blog content that are extremely impactful. If you haven't yet, go follow these guys right away.

A lot of people look up to movie stars and singers. As for me, I look up to those who share their stories and at the same time focus on quality content on Steemit. @joeparys and @axios are two guys that do this very very well and will most likely be going full time on this platform.

So to answer the question How Does Steemit Pay Us for our Content, it is through other users' upvotes, which is then paid out in Steem Power and/or SBD. After a 7 day waiting period, you can then deposit the funds into your account by going to your wallet page and the accepting your rewards.

Why It Is Best to Not Worry About Rewards

I have been an entrepreneur for close to 5 years now and have been through the ups and downs. I've made money and I have lost money.

One of the best lessons I can share with you, is that when I was money-focused, I was driven by my sense of lack. I only performed actions and produced content simply for the income.

During those moments, I felt this deep sense of desperation come over me which then turned into stress and made it painful for me to work on my business.

I wasn't doing it to serve others, I only wanted to serve myself. Friend, that is a dangerous space to be living in.

It wasn't until I understood what people wanted in the marketplace, that things began to shift in a major way.

It is best not to worry about the amount of rewards you earn from a post because when you are money-focused, then you will be coming from a place of lack and desperation like I used to.

When you are focused on rewards, the content will not be as rich and as genuine as it could be. You won't be allowed to let your mind be creative and truly give all of who you are deep down inside.

Now don't get me wrong, rewards are amazing. It is incredible to see when your content gets upvotes and then accepting the Steem Power or SBD into your wallet. It is a great feeling!

But, when you are creating content to share with the community, do it because you love it. Do it because you are focused on the process and not the end result.

enter image description here

Do it because you have a purpose here on this earth that holds greater rewards than monetary value. Do it because you have a burning desire to serve those around you and to lift up your fellow man.

Trust me, when you do that...when you put others before yourself, that is when the shift occurs. That is when you begin speaking from your heart and begin to move mountains

That is when the world takes notice and thousands of lives are impacted by your message in a way that has never been done before.

That is when pure joy will flow out of you and into your family life and your spiritual life. And guess what, you know what the cool thing is?...

When you focus on quality over rewards...the rewards come. Not only do they come, they come in droves. Why? Because you cared more about others' gain than you did your own, and that my friend...is powerful.

Great work. LOVE IT!!! See you in Las Vegas. Glad you are part of the team.

@steemcafe I am glad as well :) Excited for it!

Thank you so much @kenmelendez for this post, just this morning i honestly felt very discouraged, although i tried to give myself a pep talk about providing value and all, I still was sad. Was even envious of some other accounts. Your words have further reinforced what i know is the truth.

"One of the best lessons I can share with you, is that when I was money-focused, I was driven by my sense of lack. I only performed actions and produced content simply for the income."

Thank you.

@temitopebanks you are a gem, a diamond in the rough. Keep doing what you are doing and don’t care what others think. Stay true to yourself and never ever give up.

Fantastic post.

LOA in action :)

Glad I stumbled upon you.

Actually I am an artist/writer/lightworker who wrestles with this dilemma often. Funny how you can know something and still manage to self sabotage.

Obviously unsure of your beliefs but I speak to spirit and am often reminded, by them, of what you have written here. They also guide my hand to read what I require to read when it is needed ~ I believe nothing is random. i needed to read your piece :)

Upvoted/Followed ~ please feel free to pop by mine for a mooch if you have time.

Cheers.

I needed to read this today! ~ thanks.

@ldacey-laforge I’m so glad you enjoyed this. Very nice to meet you! LOA is super powerful. Let’s stay in touch :)

@kenmelendez I can just tell by the way you speak that experience has shown you a brilliant new path to follow. I'm not referring to any specific semantics, I'm talking about the essence you bring forth here.

I honestly don't have many words that could accurately express what I'm feeling right now except for this:

I see you.

Keep moving those mountains bro!

@axios this means so much to me, thank you. I'm going to a Steem creators event in Vegas in mid-April if you'd be interested in speaking there or just attending. @joeparys is supposed to be there also :) let's get in touch via email.. [email protected].

I actually did hear about that! I'm in an odd spot as I'm transitioning to working on here full time and paying rent in SBD (which is totally exciting!). But with that being said, I really would love to go and at least meet y'all if that door opens. I'll have a better idea of where I'm at early march. Thanks for the heads up brother!

Boom!
That is exactly what I wanted to read @kenmelendez . Huge shout out, and thanks to @axios for resteeming this, for me to find in my feed today :)
I was posting furiously on Facebook, youtubing, while all along thinking, "why couldn't it do this, or what if they did that" never knowing that a platform like steemit existed. Eventually, I got so fed up with what those platforms were becoming, that about 8 months ago, I deactivated my facebook account, deleted all my youtube videos, then just atrophied. Creatively, mentally and spiritually. Just like you empasise, steemit for me, just brought it all back in one huge explosion that I can't even keep up with lol.
So naturally, I have just been pouring myself into this for the last 18 days (yeh, I'm still a n00b) doing what I couldn't do on those other platforms, and I know that I'm in the right place, and that a hand higher than my own is at play here, because in my short steemit life, I have found the right people, for me, to provide daily inspiration, and who all expouse the same community & quality mantra.
Peace.

@bobaphet Cheers brother! Glad to meet you. Let’s rock this platform and show the world quality content together 🤙🏻

cool post bro! mentally and correctly said! thank you for the article! I'm really interested in reading!

@evgeniyshestakov appreciate the kind words. Glad to see you here spreading value to our beloved community

@kenmelendez
I have also battled with the content vs earnings many times, lol. it is sometimes difficult to stay focused - especially when you put a ton of effort into some posts that take time even months to accumulate pics and video and also the time to cultivate content based on months of preparation and then get zero or 1c for it, which has and still does happen with most of my posts lol. granted that reward is fine for resteems and basic photo posts without content, but the ones which you put effort into, and still gets nothing makes it hard. :-)

I have also changed my approach and am not too concerned with the rewards, but just continue on, using it more for my own pleasure and place to document things I find interesting regardless of the payout.

long live @steemit. love this community and the platform for helping many, by giving them a place to have a voice, and not be ridiculed or shot down for no reason.

Stay blessed, steem on steemians :-)

@michaeljn love your heart brother. I understand what you’re saying...you put your heart and soul into a post and hope to see something in return for your efforts. Keep adding value and being consistent. Consistency is key for us as content creators. Thanks for stopping by my friend.

Thank you, the sum is greater than the part thereof :-)

Thanks for posting, I am new to Steemit which, once I found out about it, I am using to cut the ties with other well known Social Media Platforms as they have decided to censor base on what the deem to be appropriate. I mean that all of the "Big" ones are now determining who see's what and can even block your post from being seen by anyone. Sure I understand how in today's world that some things need to be watched, based on what I know, I don't want young hipsters in Silicon Valley making that determination, or even an algorithm created by one of those hipsters. I also liked your "testimony" and I am hoping Steemit is a place where people can discuss faith in God without the usual flamers.

@crypto-cocktails I hear ya! Steemit is the place to be without a doubt. We are here making history and having fun doing it. Appreciate your feedback. Cheers :)
