Hard to say. You can't easily change people.
I guess it can come down to reputation a bit - have you been successful in other areas in your life that make people think you know what you're talking about?
Even then it's a hard sell at this stage, as I think many of the people who use Facebook the most are the least 'bright' - and it takes a little more brain power to use Steem / eSteem. Even Reddit is too complicated for many Facebook users.
Another challenge is that Facebook is heavily centred on being a platform to communicate with those you know - your friends. While this is also present in Steem, it's not its primary focus.
On the other hand, you can mention MySpace. Sites don't stay on top for ever.
Maybe just link to successful Steem posts on your Facebook account.

I point out you've got nothing to lose but the time you put you put into posting, which most already do a lot of with facebook anyway. Why not have the opportunity to make a few bucks while you're at it? Or even more if you really try?
Basically, in a Ponzi scheme, you would have to pay to enter, here you don't!
I might also mention that Steem are traded and subject to a market, having value by being related to the awesome social media platform Steemit, and the Steem are regularly distributed out in blocks to those who get likes and upvote valued content (instead of mining).

Yup - I made the same point about it being free to enter and therefore not a ponzi scheme and how we're all wasting our time on fb. I've managed to convince some friends, but far far fewer than I expected! To be fair, there are loads of online scams out there and it's a lot to take in if you are new to the world of cryptocurrencies (which actually I am - so that definitely didn't help as I blundered through explanations of steem power vs steem dollars etc!).

Yeah, the trending page makes the content look quite spammy and the jargon is fairly impenetrable. I still don't really know what a witness is!
That said, I was sold fairly quickly myself. I think that's because I'm more familiar with trying to make money via online content (I'm a content writer by day) and so the economic dynamics seemed fairly intuitive.
The fact is that the phrase "and you can can make money" puts people into suspicious-mode. I think if people see we're using it successfully and... possibly making money, they'll be more persuaded.
