Almost two thousand years after the death of the man, his remains were discovered in the ancient city of Pompeii. Archaeologists stumbled upon a skeleton partially crushed by a rock block that was thrown out during the first eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. It is considered one of the most disastrous volcanic explosions in Europe.
Now, thanks to further research, we have found something more. Under the remains, the archaeologists found a small bag with interesting content.

20 coins
As the researchers describe, this sensational find reveals the dramatic fate of the victim of the volcanic eruption in a more complete way. According to scientists, he was a man about 35 years old, who had not managed to escape because he was limping. Anthropologists have stated that he suffered from tibial bone inflammation.

  • Under the skeleton, researchers found the remains of a leather bag with 20 silver coins and an iron key, probably home - announced on Friday the director of the archaeological park in Pompeii, Massimo Osanna. He explained that the coins the man escaped at the time of the disaster could be considered as the equivalent of 500 euros. As Osanna added, with such an amount, the average family could live well for two weeks in those days.

According to the head of the excavation site, this man was not "rich or poor."

Who could be 35 years old?
According to the archaeologist, the 30-year-old could be a buyer. It is assumed that it was because of a sick leg that he did not leave the city after the first signals announcing the cataclysm. He escaped at the last moment, when the houses were already falling down, and he was crushed by a huge stone block that was found next to his skeleton.

The remains and the property hidden in the bag will be subjected to laboratory analysis.
