How to continue Steem On? Don't Give Up

in steemit •  7 years ago

Let me start this with a question: Did you join Steemit because of the monetary return and hope to get some extra pocket money?

I think the answer is YES, for most of the people. So am I. That will be the ultimate goal. I believe this is because most of the time, we have been introduced to Steemit with that concept. The 'Monetary Return' concept.

I started to take the initiative to introduce Steemit to friends and people around me by using the same concept weeks ago. As usual, most question raised was regarding scams, how to cash out, where does the money come from, etc. It's all related to MONEY.

Yes, at the end they did signup. But some of them didn't last long and easily give up, feel demotivated or frustrated because they didn't get the number of Upvotes they expected, and low monetary return. Additionally, they start asking why some posts with only few lines of words are able to get so many Upvotes.

I begin to think what makes them give up so easily. Then, I realized the problem is the concept of my introduction on Steemit to them. The monetary return concept.

In our Steemit Wallet History section, we can see a lot of Claim REWARDS. The keyword here is REWARD. The meaning of Reward is a thing given in recognition of service, effort, or achievement'. Reward need to be earned.

How to earn the Rewards?

Firstly, we have to erase the mindset of getting the monetary return or extra pocket money from Steemit. Start to look deep into other benefits of Steemit platform.

  • The content of the post
Steemit platform is designed to encourage users to post quality content. Reading the posts in Steemit gain a lot of knowledge which we might not be able to get somewhere else. I admired a lot of work created by many Steemians. Example, posts created by @alvinauh with his experience with education. He brings me to the world of teachers, which before this, I have no idea what is in the mind of a teacher. Another example is the animation posts created by @zord189. It opened up my eyes to the work of an animator.

  • Read more, experience more and reached out more
Many of us have the problem of creating quality content. We need to take this as a challenge instead of running away. Accept it and find a way to overcome it. For me, it encourages me to read more, attend talks and conferences, communicate with people more. Through these methods, it increased my knowledge and skills and eventually generate ideas.

  • New and even old faces
Who says Steemit doesn't connect people like Facebook do? There are communities in Steemit which connects Steemian behind the keyboard. Typical example is the recent successful TeamMalaysia gathering which the turnout was very impressive. It's fun to get to know the real faces and become real friends instead of friends in the virtual world. Guess what, I even bumped into a long lost friend @carmenraec in the gathering!

  • Basic on CryptoCurrency
This is the trend. Everyone talking about it. We will be left behind if we still hiding under the well like a frog. I know nothing about blockchain and Crypto before this. However, after joined Steemit, I am forced to know at least basic about blockchain and Crypto because Steemits rewards us in Crypto. Now, I am even investing in other Cryptos as well.

  • Improve writing skills
The more we write, the more we will improve. As simple as that. This doesn't have to elaborate more.

The above are just some of many benefits of Steemit platform other than monetary return. Once we enjoy this platform, continue posting and engage with people, eventually we will get the Rewards, and that means 'monetary return'.

This is true and I wish we could change our mindset towards steemit so that we can all benefits From it

Yeah i think mindset is very personal. everyone see steemit differently.

I totally agree with your point on learning about different things that we won't encounter in our usual ' world' . This is a cheap shot but do follow me to know more about what happens 'behind the scenes' of an athlete's life and the '10 years it take to produce a 2 minutes performance on stage !'

Ice skating cool!

Thank you for sharing this, it's a good read for newcomers like me. I will try my best to contribute to this community and even more to @teammalaysia!

Nice. That's the way.. Dont look at money :) focus on others and money will come.

Got it! :)

My current struggle is finding a theme for the content I produce. I don't really want it to be a blog/diary of my daily life (which I know some Steemians do and I find quite interesting... but that's just not for me).

Reading posts like yours does help though! Going to keep trying!

I believe everyone will have their own niche. Just write what you think you want to share. I havent found my niche yet tho... :)

Hahah all the best to both of us then XD Hopefully we'll find them soon.

Cool, just wrote about this topic too! Steem on :)

yeah High 5!

Great points... let's all steem hard for 2018 and buy ourselves a new iPhone or something for Christmas.. haha

Good to have a goal set!

Yes~!!!

Yep indeed. When we can come in with an open mind , keep going , you never know what you gonna harvest at the end of the day. So keep steeming! and yeah, great to meet u again!

If there is harvest, that's Reward. If no harvest, just continue trying. :)
