Ned was interviewed, and was quoted emphasizing the attention economy direction Steemit is heading in for a price trend reversal:
“All we can do is focus on growing a thriving social network, and along with that design, a platform that creates an attention economy, in which STEEM becomes a currency for buying user attention on the social interfaces" ... "Attention economies, in our view, represents the first opportunity for cryptocurrency to be part of an actual circular economy rather than the strictly speculative economies we see today, and further more, they’re a paradigm in which the value of online contribution can truly be returned to the users doing the work for the community.”
We can expect the attention to be monetized, i.e. ads, as has been talked about more heavily in the recent week or two. This will be a good thing overall.
Ned also mentioned improving profile pages and more modification of posts. I wonder if that means longer edit times? And possibly the long awaited profile picture? Can we dare dream the time has come? Hehe...
The short article closes mentioning a beta phase for Steemit into 2017. I guess that's good news for plans to develop more features and get things working better over all.
The next few months should see some welcome changes. Looking forward to it. How about you?

As a community, I think steemit is growing well and generating a lot if interest and interaction.
If this trend continues, the rest will follow.
I think that this is still a very exciting time to be involved and an very optimistic about the future of steemit!

Definitely looking forward to it! 2017 will be exciting. This platform is so young and has already made huge strides. Looking at the market cap alone... at 25 million, steemit is severely undervalued. Brighter days ahead! Thanks for sharing.
