A footer is something at the bottom of the article or web page. I have one, it's not the greatest though, i'll admit that.

A footer includes all data below a certain line as far as i know. So text and images all count :)
An image or even your original logo is much better of course. But since i'm a programmer i stay away from graphics design to prevent people from vomiting ;)

Fair enough. What you really should focus on vs what a footer is or not is to put some form of call to action in your post.
