BLOGGING TIPS FOR NEWBIES TO STEEMIT

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

WELCOME to the world of bloggers/writers. My fellow steemians, feel free to chime in with some tips in the comment section as well.

Here at Steemit, you can find just about any topic you can think of. That is the fascinating thing about blogging, because you can write just about anything you please. Don't know where to begin? Here's some useful tips:

1.) Pick a niche (also known as a topic)- Choose a topic that you are comfortable writing about. Do some extra research to get more content. Choosing the right niche will attract readers/audiences.

2.) Ideas- You can get ideas from your audience. Check out steemit and see the top trending topics that you can add to.

3.) Interactions- Love your readers! Get some feedback on how you can improve, ask them what they liked or did not like about your content. This builds relationships and fans appreciate when writers takes time out of their day to interact with them.

4.) Giving away stuff- This doesn't mean going through your home and getting ready to ship your stuff to the readers. No, this simply means giving your audience useful information, tips. Sometimes you can get away with writing a story about yourself if it pertains to the audience.

5.) Be Consistent- It's not very professional when you blog once every 6 months. Stay consistent, give more to your readers.

6.) Be honest- This is very important. Be honest in your writings. Nobody wants to follow or read a blog that contains content with lies. Stay true to yourself and for the readers.

7.) Pictures and videos- Using photos and videos help bring your blogs to life. Not only do your audience get to read some awesome blogs of yours, but you are bringing LIFE to it by using pictures. No one wants to read a long article. It's just that simple. Pictures are pretty, so just use them.

8.) Patience- Patience is key when it comes to blogging. Yes, you spent more than an hour coming up with this awesome blog but you have 1 to no readers. RELAX! Success does not happen over night. Every blogger and writer will tell you the same thing. If you're here to make a quick buck, the Steemit platform may not be for you then.

9.) Be nice- Every now and then, you may get a comment that you disagree with. But, as a writer, you need to be prepared for this. You can't go crazy and start calling people assholes. It doesn't work that way. Once you call someone an asshole, every other reader that you have gained, will be lost. Simple as that. Be NICE! Everyone has their opinions like you have yours.

10.) Catchy headlines- This one pretty much speaks for itself. A catchy headline will attract readers.

11.) Keeping it short- Nobody has time to read a novel. You will bore them. Have enough information to keep your audience happy, but not too much or they will simply leave.

12.) Proof Read- This is very important. You want to proof read your material before posting. I've done this a couple times myself. It's embarrassing when your readers correct you about your blog. To save yourself some time and embarrassment, PROOF READ your material before posting.

13.) Flagging blogs- Do you see that little flag button? DO NOT USE IT. This button is not for disliking someone's content/blog. This is for blogs that contain illegal content or do not follow under STEEMIT guidelines. Bloggers here at steemit HATE having their articles flagged when there is no abuse whatsoever on their blog. Just don't use it.

Well, I hope this helped some of you out! Good luck and once again, WELCOME to STEEMIT!

thanks, good tips.

One other: Don't start spamming referral links. People don't like it.

Oh my, yes indeed. That is a great one! Thank you!

Thanks for the help.

thank you I read it all . today I did my first blog so I am still learning . cheers

Great post, Thank you!

wish i could save this post somewhere

Learnt a lot. Its funny, i have been practicing my writings for a few years and made a post about it, now that i read yours i can clearly see my mistakes, thank you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. We started about nine days prior and we are still trying to figure it all out. I am still learning how to search for stuff here and seem to have hit the jackpot.

Number 8 - being patient hit home with me. I have been so frustrated with the lack of community and all on YT that I guess it is filtering over. We have had such a great experience here so far.

Thanks again.
Ren

Very interesting stuff. Thanks a lot. Can you please elaborate on "pick a niche"? I mean, should all the blog posts I create be on the same topic or can it end in one title? That would be like, my one blog post is a niche for my one idea and another blog post as a niche for another idea?
I am confused in this matter.
Please help.
