Yes, ideally that should be the spirit. The problem is many people come here for the sake of making money only. Many think it as an another online avenue to earn money and some unemployed people consider it as a full-time work opportunity. It's only our higher expectations which disappoint us.

Great truth you speak of lord. I have been on Steemit a total of 10 days, and love it . The truth is when I came here it wasn't for money , fame or fortune. I did not even know that Steem was a crypto currency.
I came here for personal reasons the most important of all being a place to document my thoughts for future grandchildren to look back and see what the old man had to say.
I got married later in life to beautiful young woman much younger than myself. We have four kids that are my pride and joy.
Here is the thing, my kids never new my parents as they had already passed, if my kids are like me and wait to raise a family there is a real good chance that my grand children will never meet me. By doing my Daily Dose of Sultnpapper blog there will be a written documentation of what my thoughts, opinions and values are.
So I came here for selfish reasons, money being least of all.
The community has been more than welcoming and I enjoy being a part of it and look forward to contributing to the growth and well being of the community now that I have had time to look around.
So if no person reads or up votes my work I take no offense to it, the ones who it is intended for haven't even been born yet.

I luv your motivation @lordoftruth, you know some people were actually introduced to steemit with that mindset, 'post and get paid for your posts', but i actually discovered myself that its much moré than that, its about finding your passion in steemit and people will appreciate it, yea, i wrote something yesterday about people starting to see steemit as a social media, dat way dy can take thier mind off the money, and also attract other people to steemit too.. Upvote is a added value component in Steemit but it is true that is not all about upvoting. The true intention should be producing great content for the people with the right branding and marketing strategy as well as PR. It is not about writing to get upvote, asking for people to upvote. Usually, when being asked for upvote directly, people tend to be more reluctant (unless is a bot). It is more like a continuous supportive community we are building here.

Tbh, most of the posts that i consider my best never get the most amount of upvotes. What they do get is the most amount of human comments. And that's what counts - actual, human engagement. Upvotes are good, but once in a while, it's nice to have a post that creates a discussion.
