If people would be able to use Steem for remittances, then I feel this could just blow up out of proportion for Steem, as there would be no need to convert Steem's to bitcoin and then to local currencies.
Its dependency on bitcoin would be negated and we can then truly consider it as a global currency :-)
I believe both have different properties, but who decides that is the market (i.e. people worldwide).
