February 9th of this year will be my one month anniversary on Steemit.
My friend @phoenixwren was who introduced me to Steem, and while my initial take off was interesting to say the least, I am happy I did this!
I would say that your first month here is kinda like a tech boot camp. If you're a newborn, be prepared as somewhere in your first month you're bound to step on some toes and incur someone's wrath no matter what!
There are no posted rules for how to conduct yourself in chat. (Apparently that request has been made several times of the powers that be but they can't be bothered). So here is what I believe to be are some of the Rules!
Rule #1. While the standard for chat in EVERY SINGLE CHAT ROOM EVER invented until Steem Chat has been to ask/give ASL (age, sex, location), UNDER THREAT OF DEATH DO NOT ASK THIS WHEN IN CHAT!!! Apparently a few too many weirdos have gotten in in the past and did some not very nice things etc. etc., and made people paranoid, or extra-paranoid, and so this is an absolute positive NO NO NO NO DO NOT DO IT. Basically a case of a few bad tadpoles ruining it for everyone.
Rule #2. DO NOT ASK FOR UPVOTES AND DO NOT PROMOTE ANY OF YOUR POSTS IN GENERAL CHAT. THERE ARE SPECIFIC CHAT ROOMS FOR THAT AND ASKING FOR UPVOTES IS FROWNED UPON AKA, SEEN AS GREEDY. This is just as, if not moreso, important as rule #1.
Rule #3. Things that are ok, (HINT: SAFE) to talk about when first in chat: weather, Steemit, blogging WITHOUT ASKING SOMEONE TO READ YOUR BLOG, cryptos, cats, Bitcoin, photography, Steemit again, crypto, crypto, and crypto...you really can't go wrong talking about crypto even if no one else can understand you. This crowd will just sit back and think you're pretty cool!
(Oh and females, all females of any origin, country, language etc etc, MIRACLES OF MIRACLES has occurred because Satoshi Nakamota, credited founder or founders of the block chain, has FINALLY managed to knock sex off as the number 1 motivator for males to DM females!! TADA!!! UPVOTING!! Guaranteed! You will get DMs from males BEGGING for an upvote and NOT virtual sex. AMAZING!!)
Rule #4. Females....there is a Resident Romeo. He's pretty much harmless and he only does this in open chat -does not DM you in person, and actually can be somewhat entertaining, once you've been here a bit. However if you're female, be prepared.
Rule #5. Everyone...ANYONE ...if you have a question DO NOT ask certain chat moderators. ASK GOOGLE. It's not that they don't know, it's just that many of your questions are covered in the help section, or if you don't want to bother with that, ask Google. (And they actually are right about this. I know. I learned the hard way!) Apparently being asked the same thing over and over and over and over and over makes one a little grumpy particularly when you're sleep deprived. Actually asking questions that are covered in the help section or can be answered by Google are kind of viewed, in general, as an act of laziness, stupidity, etc. etc. because "you got this far already stupid! you can figure it out! " as well as "figuring it out" on your own is a good learning tool etc. etc..
Rule #6. No one will tell you this but part of the secret to the success of this thing called Steemit is finding your crowd, aka your clique or who you"click" with! Here are a few I've discovered so far, but to one specific one I do not belong because I'm complex, I guess! Now to a certain degree everyone overlaps I'm sure!
#OpHumanAngels....these guys are mellow, laid back, and busy saving the world one random act of kindness at a time! You will also find them pulling/creating random acts of beauty. This is my friend Wren. The great thing about this group is they bring this "human angels" to the forefront of your brain and holy cow! You just realize you're a receiver of one of these acts! (that's a future blog entry of mine! Stay tuned!)
#TeamGirlPowa.....headed by @sykochica and a few others, this group is alot of fun...think "me too" movement but without the negative foundation experience that binds us all together. Syko and her team are supportive, patient, and all about being a "team in this for all girls". You will also find Syko extremely informative with all sorts of links to help you get your blog rolling successfully.
#TeamNewbieInitiative.....guess what Newborns there's folks out there that care about US and want US to succeed because when newbies succeed it's good for everyone PLUS they actually do genuinely care! These guys are great for help with posting suggestions reposting or "resteeming" a post as well as running all kinds of contests to keep us inspired and rolling along to where we become minnows, dolphins, and maybe even WHALES! HEY! IT COULD HAPPEN! You'll find ppl in this movement such as @davemccoy, @randomwanderings, @ilovepoorpeople and more. Actually they're pretty hard to miss!!
Rule #7. You can pretty much blog post about anything....having a bad day? Vent! Love photography? Post your pics!! Can talk about crypto forever?? Blog it!! Even if you're frustrated with Steemit, blog it because chances are you'll get a response helping you with what your frustrated about!
Rule #8. Take it one day at a time...or even one blog or one moment at a time! There's no hurry. You can learn it at your own pace. I started with NOT being motivated AT ALL by cryptos, currencies, money and how it all works. I've just now started actually researching what a blockchain is and what exceeding bandwith is... basically out of necessity so my I can keep posting. Don't know what those are? Google em. You can even find VIDEOS explaining it all...which is what I prefer, and once you "get it" you'll have a certain sense of pride. Just like I did when I did my first power up the other night!
Rule #9. You're gonna HAVE to learn about all this, even if you are completely unmotivated to learn. (The last thing I wanted to have to deal with is researching blockchain and everything having to do with how it all runs and works. I just wanted to blog and have the steem and everything go where it's supposed. Hey I'm a Taurus. Staying in my comfort zone is one of my attributes however Steem doesn't work that way, like it or not!
Rule #10. Have fun!! Have fun have fun have fun dammit! You're going to have fun whether you like it or not! Lol For the majority of time I've been on Steem, I've been sick with the flu followed immediately by a bad ear n sinus infection. And yet despite feeling like I wanted to die, (I was calling my sister requesting she come shoot me I felt so bad), I still managed to blog some. Get ready. Steem is addictive. I easily spend more time here now then Facebook ,email, and other platforms I'm on. And I'm pretty sure this is only going to get bigger...!!!
Blockchain defined per Wikipedia:
A blockchain,[1][2][3] originally block chain,[4][5] is a continuously growing list of records, called blocks, which are linked and secured using cryptography.[1][6] Each block typically contains a hash pointer as a link to a previous block,[6] a timestamp and transaction data.[7] By design, a blockchain is inherently resistant to modification of the data. It is "an open, distributed ledger that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way".[8] For use as a distributed ledger, a blockchain is typically managed by a peer-to-peer network collectively adhering to a protocol for validating new blocks. Once recorded, the data in any given block cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks, which requires collusion of the network majority.
Blockchains are secure by design and are an example of a distributed computing system with high Byzantine fault tolerance. Decentralized consensus has therefore been achieved with a blockchain.[9] This makes blockchains potentially suitable for the recording of events, medical records,[10][11] and other records management activities, such as identity management,[12][13][14] transaction processing, documenting provenance, food traceability[15] or voting.[16]
The first blockchain was conceptualized in 2008 by a person or group known as Satoshi Nakamoto and implemented in 2009 as a core component of bitcoin where it serves as the public ledger for all transactions.[1] The invention of the blockchain for bitcoin made it the first digital currency to solve the double spending problem without the need of a trusted authority or central server. The bitcoin design has been the inspiration for other applications.
(Such as Steemit)
Thank yous go out to @phoenixwren @sykochica, @apsu, @tecnosgirl, @lyndsaybowles, @ilovepoorpeople, @randonwanderings, @matytan, @krisves, @m31, @holoz0r and everyone else that have helped me survive and succeed this first month!!!
P.S. @mykos here's a pic of me.
@ about 3 years old, doing the hula...I had the moves! (We never established what KIND of pic of me lol)
It is a learning curve and it is sad that some people ruined things for others, but in reality we all have to learn. So that is the best advice, research google is a great source, but so is the search bar on steemit. Many answers are already on the block chain.

Yep!! You're right. And I personally find I understand it better if I research it myself. Oh and part of this was attempt at humor. I hope some find it funny.

I also wish they would show who all looked at your posts. :)

Glad you are finding your footing and figuring out the power up! You got this! :)
Also, I would wager the crypto crowd is more private, which may be why a/s/l isn't so much a thing, but I haven't hung out in the chats, so don't have any personal experience there. I just know as far as privacy concerns and all, I've seen a lot more caution, which is understandable especially when financials are involved!

Maybe I'm being too lax to my own detriment!!
