When Is The Transaction Error When Publishing A Post Going To Get Fixed?

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

I don't usually vent on Steemit but I have a gripe that I can't contain anymore. Since around the time of Steemfest posting a post on Steemit shows a transaction error when you hit the publish button.

The post does get published and opening your blog on another tab in your browser and refreshing the page shows the post is live.

For seasoned Steemit users, this is a temporary problem that I'm sure will get fixed. However, for a new Steemian they are getting very confused.

Almost everyone that I have signed up to Steemit who are currently active has sent me a message that reads something like this.

Hey, @luzcypher, I'm trying to post on Steemit and it says I have a transaction error. What do I do? Did I break it?

To which I respond explaining what I mentioned above.

This is not good for the platform and needs to be addressed. I have spent hours over this last month explaining to people who signed up because of me how to work around this and it seems silly that a team of people at Steemit has not fixed this yet.

One of the reasons I made this post is to save me time explaining this to people. Now I will just send them a link to this post.

Surely you can see how this gives a bad impression and especially a bad first impression. I'm not going to promote Steemit or sign any more people up until this is fixed because it reflects badly on the platform.

Imagine getting a group of 50 people together to introduce them to Steemit (a scenario I'm sure is happening all over the world as we speak) and all of them are excited because all week they have heard from the 10 people I have already signed up to Steemit just how great it is.

I gather them together and walk them through making their first introductory post and as soon as they hit the publish button for the first time they get a transaction error.

Now imagine the look on their faces as you explain to them that this is just a temporary error and here is how you fix it. The excitement seems to have drained from their faces replaced by confusion as they smile politely thinking; what the fuck?

I understand we are in beta and things like this will come up, but this seems like something that should be a priority and I have not seen any updates or gestures reassuring us that it is being addressed.

First impressions really set the tone for how a user interacts with the platform and my reputation means something to me. I'm a diehard Steemian and can promote like a boss, but until this is fixed I'm in a holding pattern as far as any immediate site promotion goes.

Is this too much to ask? That the post publish button works properly.

Come on guys, really? Am I the only one who thinks this is important?

Is anyone doing anything about this?

It seems like it's important enough not to put it off. Is someone working on it?

How many users do you think Steemit is losing while we wait for this to be fixed?

The other thing that really bothers me about these types of issues that don't seem to be clearly communicated to the community is that people will now have to make a post, as I have done, about this issue asking what is being done about it.

Now Google is going to eventually index all these posts talking about the problems with Steemit. In publishing, this is called bad publicity and it's the last thing Steemit needs is users complaining about every issue that comes up with the platform indelibly and ad nauseam when one post from the Steemit team could have informed everyone about the issue and status.

These problems will now come up anytime some new user searches Google about Steemit and the impression they will get is that no one is doing anything about them. Why else would so many of the users be making posts about the same problem?

** End of rant **

Please, the fine, hardworking people on the Steemit technical team, please fix the transaction broadcast error on the publishing button when you publish a post. Thank you.

I've encountered this error(transaction error) several times last week I'm luck my content wasn't posted 2 or more times. But my friend does, he just singed up 2 weeks ago, as he encountered this issue he posted the same content 3 times and if he wasn't able to call me regarding that error he might posted it over and over..

The first time it happened was while I was at Steemfest and I ended up posting the same post 3 times before I noticed what was happening.

I've had to fix a few double-posts when this first occurred. Will be very pleased to see this resolved.

Me too.

I did have issues a coupe of weeks ago but I didn’t see anything like that in last couple days

This issue has been on every one of my posts for about 4 weeks now. I can deal with it but it's embarrassing when I show someone new to Steemit how to post and this happens. It looks bad.

have you tried posting from busy.org?

I have but I'm used to using Steemit and don't know my way around Busy that much so when I'm introducing new people to it it works better for me to show them from Steemit.

Are you still having issues posting? I didn't notice any issues today

I agree. I have gotten used to it, but I am still opening another browser tab to be sure it posted before, I trust it enough to select the clear. I thought that this would have been fixed before now. I just told my nephew to sign up to Steemit, so I guess I should let him know, when he goes to make his first post. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I hope so too.

  • Yep, this not good for the platform, and needs to be addressed…

  • Yep, it reflects badly on the platform.

  • Yep, it should be a priority; and, I have not seen any updates or gestures reassuring us that it is being addressed.

  • Yep, Steemit is losing…(hopefully, in short-term only)

It seems too much attention is being put on taking the platform in too many unchartered directions; before, getting solidified in basic use.

Peace.

  • Yep, this is frustrating.
  • Yep, my plans to sign a group of new users up is on hold
  • Yep, I wish they would fix it or say something at least

Peace to you too.

Lol..

Many thanks! I needed a genuine laugh....

I had my own rant a couple hours ago regarding Steemit looking more like a resale shop than platform for talent on display.

All will be well, I suppose.

Peace.

Keep an eye on this GitHub issue: https://github.com/steemit/condenser/issues/1871

Hey, you may know the answer to this.
Where is the link for the thread to report a very active tag missing?
The originalmusic tag has been missing (again) for about a month now.
It gets used daily but disappeared.

I'm not quite sure. You could submit an issue here on github, but I'm not clear on how that tag list on the left is created. Let me ask around and see what I can find.

It looks confusing to me too. Thanks for helping out. I appreciate it and Happy Thanksgiving

I asked around a bit and the answer is kind of complicated. I don't understand all the code that determines which tags show up and which ones don't.

Finally, the comment I was waiting for. Thanks for the link Luke!

Wow, what a whiny butt post that was. LOL

Seriously, obviously this needs to get fixed.

Steemit comes across as an amateur joke with current posting errors

LOL, I know. It's out of character for me, but it really sucks showing new people Steemit and when they finally get an account and make their first post, this happens.

I just want them to fix it now.

Great points Luzcypher but all I can think about is what a crackhead does with no lighter...I guess they'd have to get creative somehow...but how?

Rub two sticks together I imagine.

:) :)

I get transaction broadcast error when I edit posts too, and can never get them back out of editing mode after.

I've had this problem too but seems to work now on comments.

Try refreshing the page and publishing the comment again, provided it didn't already publish.

LOL!

I'll say it is quite annoying but at least it's not deleting posts anymore!! I really would like to see this addressed very soon!

Yes, I have some Steemit meetups I'm planning to do and I can't imagine having to explain this to people I sign up.

Nice lost

by last weekend, i was totally confident.
when i see transaction broadcast error, i was totally confident it means posted.😎
i checked my blog page amd yes it was there.
in the last 2 days, the confidence level drop a bit.
it wasn't posted a couple of times.

That's why I open another tab in my browser, go to my blog, and refresh. Only when I see the new post posted in the new tab do I go to the first tab and clear the posting form.

my wife said i opening too many tabs😎

Its things like this that make me think the developers just don't care, what sort of negative sentiment is it producing? Well pointed out.

Things like this are bound to happen. To see it unresolved for 3 weeks now is disheartening.

Exactly, just a little communication from the developers would be enough for me, like "hey guys we're working on it"

Seem reasonable, right? Much more preferable than having a flush of posts like this one ranking on Google. Just what Steemit needs. Bad publicity and every error it encounters indexed on Google forever.

This is not good for the platform and needs to be addressed. I have spent hours over this last month explaining to people who signed up because of me how to work around this and it seems silly that a team of people at Steemit has not fixed this yet.

A team... a team.. Ah! A TEAM!! ¡Yeah! that sounds like a mildly optimistic murmur well back in the past.

Surely you can see how this gives a bad impression and especially a bad first impression. I'm not going to promote Steemit or sign any more people up until this is fixed because it reflects badly on the platform.

Haha ¡Yes mate! ¿Who would want promote steemit under these dysfunctional circumstances? To then become yourself into the poor Ad-Honorem help desk chap to whom everyone and their cats addresses their cries and demands. Tsk Tsk

Come on guys, really? Am I the only one who thinks this is important?

You certainly are not the only one who thinks this is important. In fact, you saved me a good deal of time & effort of writing my own post on this matter using a little bit more extravagant, ironic and sarcastic words. LoL }:)

I hope the Devs actually put aside soon their ear plugs and start listening the collective choral music that the crowd is singing out loud in our steemit community.

Cheers!! :)

LOL, I'm glad we can laugh about this.

There are many things that Steem can improve in my opinion. Another big problem I saw about Steemit is that it took me over a week for my account to be approved. This is way too long in my opinion, and I think it should be fixed for Steemit to be a more enjoyable platform.
However, like you said, Steemit is in Beta and hopefully, as time passes, it will become more convenient and less buggy to post on Steemit.

That is another issue altogether. The reason it takes so long to sign up is that there is a cost associated with signing up to provide the bandwidth needed for a new account. There is no cost to the new person signing up but there needs to be some Steem Power assigned to new accounts so that you can upvote, comment, and post. That has to come from somewhere so new accounts get some Steem Power delegated to their account until they earn enough on their own to not need that anymore.

It is an issue that will need to be addressed before it would be ready for mass adoption. There is a way around it if someone wants to fund their own account.

This website does just that. https://anon.steem.network/
There is a cost to sign up here but you don't have to wait for someone to delegate Steem to your account because you can fund it yourself. So, it is instant but you bare the cost.

I agree with you, it's getting mentally tiring having to open a new tab every time you post something just to see if the post went through.

very good post, Once i faced this problem and i dunno what to do finally ive seen the post published

Wow, I’ve experienced this before, especially with my replies to posts, but I thought to greater extent that it does happen anytime that internet connection turns weak.

Usually that's the reason it happens and most often on comments. For the last few weeks however, it has been happening on posts and I've seen many multiple posts of the same posts because of this error.
