I live in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and I have different expectations than in Canada with regards to infrastructure...sewer, water, electricity etc.
Lately we haven't had any hot water; at best it is lukewarm. So this morning, after ramping myself up to get in the shower, I was beyond pleasantly surprised to find beautiful hot water coming from my shower head. I yelled with excitement to husband, who quickly bolted in wondering if I was having some kind of fit or heart attack, only to find me grinning like a fool with wondrous steam rising from my body. He shook his head at me and disappeared, leaving me to my bliss.
That's when it hit me! I have to appreciate all the little things that life throws my way. Things like a cool breeze on a hot day, a perfect cup of coffee, a nice cold beer, and...hot water coming from my shower head!
I began to daydream, thinking what a great blog this would make, imagining how articulate it would be, when I was suddenly brought out of my stupor by...did you guess it?...lukewarm water!
Shoot, I've been daydreaming too long. Then a second thought hit me, thanks to
The Rolling Stones! 
"You can't always get what you want, but you get what you need."
I quickly finished showering, realising a third thing:
Make sure you take the time to truly enjoy the little things in life.
STEP 1: Acknowledge them
STEP 2: Enjoy them because you never know how long it will last !
So today, I am thankful for a (mostly) hot shower, but it got me thinking about steemit.
I am so thankful for this platform, for all the help that people have given me, and for what the future holds because unlike my hot water, the potential here is endless!!

Playa del Carmen has changed a lot since the time I visited it almost 22 years ago. The last time we were in the Cancun area (about five years ago now) my wife and I thought about going but as we passed the exit on the highway headed to Tulum, it just didn't look the same. I think there was some kind of construction going on.
Funny thing is, though, a friend of mine and I stayed at a small motel called La Bamba in Playa del Carmen back in 1996. We slept on raised concrete slabs with a thin mattress and thread worn sheets. The walls seemed paper thin, as if we were out in the street. When we got up the next morning I went to take a shower and there was barely a trickle, so we waited until later in the day when we were at Coba.
After checking in, I immediately went to take a shower. There was plenty of water this time, but it was ice cold! It took my breath away, and I could only stand it for about a minute or so.
That's got to be the faster shower I've ever had.
Then, I debated whether or not to tell my friend about it, and decided not to. Somehow he managed to scream when the cold water hit him! He wanted to know why I didn't warn him, and all I could answer was, "How did you manage to scream?"
Fun times. Loved that trip through Quintano Roo into the Yucatan. Look forward to doing it again some day.

hahaha that's awesome! I wouldn't have told him about the cold water either!! You never really know what to expect here, but that's part of the adventure! We've been coming here for a long time and have watched it getting bigger and bigger. Can't say that I'm a huge fan of the growth because remember how 5th ave used to be so quaint? Now there's a huge shopping mall and a casino being built. A lot of the little vendors have been shoved aside. We live outside of the touristy area, way more authentic. In fact, our neighbour lives in what sounds like your first experience here! Having said that though, there is still a lot of fun to be had here :) Thank you so much for the reply! Cheers!

Sounds like a great place to live even with lukewarm water. My wife and I considered moving to the Caribbean at one point in our lives, but only got as far as Florida.

Just do it!!! We love it. My husband's parents always went to Florida, but we soon discovered that your dollar goes a whole lot further here than it does there! I'm thinking of doing a blog on our daily expenses here because that seems to be an interest for sure:)

The blog would be fantastic! I am sure that you have a wealth of information to share about the whole experience. I'm sure that there a lots of people who would love to do what you have done but are afraid to make that move!
