Sometimes, the best lessons we learn are the ones that we learned the hard way. Throughout my years in Internet Marketing, I’ve been able to make many mistakes and learned many lessons from them.
Here are some of the most common Internet Marketing mistakes that I see people make all the time. You’ll want to avoid this mistakes at all costs:
1. Not knowing who your target market is. This is one of the biggest internet marketing mistakes that many amateur internet marketers make when they first get into internet marketing. It is very important for your internet marketing campaign to know who you are targeting and what problems they have that your product or service will solve.
2. Poor communication to your prospective customers. Similar to problem number one, I see many internet marketers don’t understand how to relate well with their prospects.
Be very certain in all of your advertising, blogs, and communications with your customers that you understand your audience and give them something that they can relate to. Internet marketing is not just about driving people to a website. Internet marketing is about relating with your target audience in a way that they can best see how your solution or product will solve their problem. Always remember, you are a problem solver.
3. Spending a lot of money for advertising without knowing your rate of return. Internet marketing shouldn’t cost a lot of money, especially as you are first starting out! Internet marketing can be done very inexpensively if you understand what you are doing.
The best thing that you can do is to know how to be creative. Be creative with your internet marketing. I’ll be talking more in future posts about ways to get free traffic, but basically it boils down to building quality content in your blogs, social media, and other inexpensive places you can advertise. Don’t forget, you don't always have to spend a lot of money to be a success at internet marketing, especially in the beginning.
4. One more mistake I see sometimes happening is link spam. Too many times you’ll hear “the more links the better”. That’s true IF and only IF those links come from quality sites that search engines like. There are all too many systems out that that sound so good by providing lots of back links to your web pages, but the search engines are fully aware of those link farms and can penalize you for using them. Just make sure you are not breaking any search engine rules through backlinks in questionable sites.
Coming up in a search engine is a huge part of internet marketing, and that internet privilege must be taken seriously.
