I thought I knew what love was. I thought it was always putting him before yourself, making sure he was happy before you knew if you were. I thought it was forgiving him countless times for hurting you, not physically but mentally, because he said he was stupid and didn’t know why he did what he did but he “loves you.” I thought it was “the heart wants what it wants” because no matter how many times he did hurt you and left for another lover, he came back and treated you like a princess but only for a short amount of time.
This Is Not Love. You should not fight for love. It should not be one way. Love should not hurt.
It is true that you should love yourself before loving another because when you don’t, love becomes so confusing and you think it should be a certain way so when someone comes around and gives you the love you deserve, you don’t know how to react.
I will no longer forgive him or any other lover in the future for hurting me and making love an excuse for it. I will no longer go back to a love that is only one way. I will no longer fight for a love where it does not belong. I will wait until the right one comes and I will be prepared to not fix my mistakes with the last one but know how to love and know what love should be like. Love should be kind and love should not hurt.
