FOLLOW ME I FOLLOW YOU; THE NEW TREND ON STEEMITsteemCreated with Sketch.

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

There is a new trend now in the steemit ecosystem, especially observed with newbies (red fish). When you comment on their posts, the next statement to your greatest amazement will be -follow me and I'll follow you too. Why the desperation? Personally, I feel this is not right. Yes, it is very important to promote your posts in every way you can, especially as a newbie on this platform. If you do not promote your post, it would be very difficult for people to see it. However, you need to be very creative in the way you go about that.

I curated 3 posts today. In reply to the 3 posts, I found creative ways to promote my own post.

EXAMPLE 1 : REPLY  TO A POST -MILESTONE: 1000 POSTS

EXAMPLE 2 : REPLY TO A POST - WHY TODAY IS THE PERFECT TIME TO BUY STELLAR LUMENS

EXAMPLE 3: REPLY TO A POST - ARE YOU INTERESTED IN STELLAR LUMENS? CHECK IT OUT!!!

Instead of constructive ways, to promote posts, this is what I get

Please, tell me. How does this reply relate to my post - HOW A HAUSA MAN MADE BILL GATES TO RESIGN ?

Clearly, this was a spam. Why on earth should you spam some one else's blog page? After the spam I get another response. follow me, I follow you

What are your thoughts on this new steemit trend-Follow me I follow you? Please share in the comments section below.

Upvote, follow @maryfavour, resteem/reblog.

It does sound a little desperate. It doesn't really matter who follows who I guess the real kicker is who actually engages your posts ie reads them, up vote and resteems them. Mindlessly building followers who are in active is pointless. Just my 2 cents. By the way up voted, followed and resteemed!

Absolutely, @simo95! I cannot agree more with you that the real kicker is who actually engages your posts ie reads them, up vote and resteems them. Thanks for the upvote, follow and resteem. I appreciate your very wise comment. You just got 6 cents from my upvote !

Thanks maryfavour!

You are most welcome, @simo95. Thank you too for your support.

nice said....

Thanks, @lautenglye!

u r welcome

Interesting post. I agree with you, sometimes we get this kind of spam. As a recent come to steemit, I consider the important thing to do in this media is to post articles, videos, photos of quality regardless of the popularity that can get. Nevertheless it is quite hard for a newbie to be noticed by the people with large steempower.
BTW I upvoted and follow you.

Thank you, @nenio. I like the way you regularly comment on my posts. Have taken note of that. I perfectly agree with you that the important thing to do in this media is to post articles, videos, photos of quality regardless of the popularity that can get. I understand the difficulties of the possibility of a newbie getting noticed. However, there are ways to overcome these challenges. I could help find ways to creatively promote very good posts of newbies/red fish. The forthcoming hardfork 19 will address the issue of visibily for everyone. If you do not have large steempower, build a very large reputation. The upvote and follow are very well appreciated.

Thank you.

HAHAHAH I'm totally a red fish lol. I see someone follow me, I follow back. But when I went to check who some of these followers were - I realized they were just mass following people.

Steemit is cool - but it's not necessarily intuitive. I've only been (active) on
here a few days, but learning that there seems to be a core group, and real sense of community.

It seems like you know the ropes - maybe do a guide on Steem etiquette? Steemiquette? LOL

I'd read it.

That said, commenting on someone's post with totally unrelated spam goes against common sense. I wonder if there's any way Steem developers could keep spammers out ?

Maybe like forums - you can't post links until you reach a certain status or after a certain number of posts....just a thought.

Wow! Your comment is mindblowing! Very useful. I should set about doing the guide on steemit etiquette. I will also talk to one the whales, who I consider my mentor. I believe that something will be done about it and very quickly too. You deserve more than my 6 cents upvote. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts on this .

Ahh @Maryfavour thank you :-* !!! You made my day!

It's my pleasure, @blunderbabe. Glad to have made your day. STEEM ON!

I am also starting, reading it has been for peace of mind, every day studying the community learning and improving the quality of the blog. I think time is bearing fruit. I would not even like to make mistakes, I really liked that of the mentor whales. Thank you.

Thank you for stopping by to comment @haydeart. Steemit is a school for me, where I learn very important things, ranging from contemporary information to how to improve the quality of one's blog, like you rightly stated. Regarding mistakes, I think mistakes are inevitable, since no man is perfect. However, we must learn from our mistakes and those of others. The whales have greatest influence on this platform, because they have the highest stakes, so if I have any challenge that I feel is beyond what I can handle, I signal one of them, whom I consider my mentor in steemit.

rs and upvote for you....

I appreciate the resteem and upvote, @lautenglye. Thanks!

u r welcome...

I Endorse This Rant On Self-Promotion. Cheers @maryfavour.

Really, @bitcoinsky? Well, if done with wisdom, it might be okay. However, I don't like the idea of people spamming other people's blog page. Personally, if I cannot contribute meaningfully to another's post, then it would be better for me to just pass by and pretend like I never saw that post.

Uhm...just to be clear...I was supporting your opinion...I am trying to agree with you. Cheers @maryfavor. I wasn't trying to troll you.

Ah ok. Now I understand. Thanks.

I don't see anything wrong with the follow-follow thing... Spamming though is not cool, some people don't realize yet that this is not facebook...

Thanks @dreamrafa. I absolutely agree with you that some people here still think that this is another facebook. The steemit platform is a platform for serious-minded people, who are ready to share their time, knowledge and talents with others for the common good.

i think this happens for a good reason, some people may think that they must do this kind of spam in order to get enough votes... They may see other post getting a lot of votes and views, and they don't understand why their posts aren't working, it took my some time to understand how steemit works...

Well yes. It's completely the same with everybody. Personally, I'm just trying to find my feet in steemit. I really appreciate your comments and contribution. STEEM ON!

Aah very interesting. I am a newbie too, just a 2 days old red fish. I had to check my followers, following part to see, if i did the same thing - without consciousness maybe ?? So happy i didn't LOL!

followed and resteemed!
