Ok, so it seems to me that your display name is shown on your page but your username is shown when you comment.
Downvoting a post can decrease pending rewards and make it less visible. Common reasons:

Same issue here. Didn't realize my username was going to be public. Thought that was what the display name was for. So far it seems there is no way to change the username.

I got creative about my username, because I figured that so long as I kept my passwords safe, I would encounter no problems in the future in performing any significant transactions on my Steemit account. I haven't really selected a display name, even though I've been a Steemian for two and a half years.
