Good Morning Steemit from beautiful Colorado! Before getting into certain topics, I felt I would simply introduce myself. Now, I will warn you, there will be no research involved in this post, as I have known myself long enough to assume research to introduce myself would not be necessary.
My family and I are from the great state of Texas, proud to be a Texan of course, but that is also the reason we are now Coloradoans since 2004. If you have survived the heat and traffic, you know exactly what I mean! Though all of our family is there and we do miss them often, the life we have made here makes it all worth it and I would not change it for the world. We have a little bit of everything here. We have skiing of course, only 45 min from the nearest resort. If skiing isn't your idea of fun we also have desert areas, beautiful lakes, rock climbing and we have amazing communities with many talented artists of all varieties. And of course, we have Coors, wineries through the state, and I could not talk about the perks of Colorado with out mentioning we are the first state to legalize recreational marijuana. Admit it, you knew that was coming.
I became a mother at the young age of 19, which is now how old my oldest son his. It's strange, it does not feel like it should have gone by that quickly. It truly is a very emotional thing when your first born graduates, of course you are very proud, but at the same time my heart broke. He walked the stage on his 18th birthday, with honors. It was then that I fully realized my baby was no longer a baby..yes I am one of those mothers. He did stay home for a while, and has recently moved back to Texas, just as I was becoming adjusted to him being an adult. Go figure right? I will be going through the same thing again this year, two years in a row I get to watch one of my children walk the stage and cross that line into adult hood. I believe there is no way to really prepare to see your babies grow up. I spoke of being married to a guitarist, well, my middle son is the first one to take after Dad. He has fingers that stretch on forever and it takes this young man all of just a few tries to learn anything that he sits down to learn, and then begins to put his own flavor in it, mainly by speeding it up. I am still in aw at the speed at which he can throw down riffs. My youngest son, I have a few years to adjust to all of the changes, I say that now, but 4 years will be here and gone before I know it. He, too, has followed his father in his guitar ability. Though he got his guitar at the same time as his brother, he simply did not have the patients to learn at first so it took a bit of time for him to break out and find his playing potential. It was very soon after a few short lessons from his father that he began to sit down and write his own songs, at 13 years old. I was highly impressed and very proud to say the very least. My husband and I met when I was all of 20 years old and once I looked into his eyes I was simply in awe and he quickly gained a stalker. We married 2 years later and have been together every since. We celebrated our 16th anniversary this year, and again, it just not seem as though it has been that long. Truth is, my brain is still stuck in "young mode" but then I pass by a mirror and it brings me back to reality. He is a very hard working man and would do anything for his family. He has tinkered with the guitar his entire life, but has only begun really playing it regularly from about 2007. In 2008 he found a flyer about a new band in the town we live in that was still forming. They already had a guitarist, but the flyer said they may consider a 2nd guitarist. Well, he went to an audition, and the rest is history. We have very strong friendships in the music community here and when I see my husband on stage, or even just at practice or even tinkering around while we are at home, I feel a sense of pure joy. I look at him and realize when I was just a small child, this has been the man of my dreams. A hard working, chiseled, absolutely gorgeous metal guitarist. I mean, come on, how could I not love having what I have always wanted? Sure, he is not as chiseled as he was when we first me, and he has a few grays and a few lines on his face, but that simply ads character to an already beautifully created man. As far as myself, well, I am not near as entertaining or talented as my family. I work full time, recently from home until our local office reopens, and my life entirely revolves around taking the best possible care of my family that I can. Since I do work indoors, I do like to try to get out as much as possible but any working mother knows how challenging that can be aside from typical shopping. About 2 years ago I did pick up what I thought was just a "hobby", and I now love my craft capabilities and will be growing my knowledge as I acquire more room in my house. About 3 years ago I tried crocheting, and I made a blanket for my oldest son. It took all of a year, but It was made to fit his tall stocky body. Half way through that year I began getting curious about knitting. The thought of using to straight needles and being able to form a stitch with them, I just could not wrap my brain around that at all. But I had a goal to teach myself how to knit when I finished the blanket. It took a bit of work and a lot of retries and patients to learn where to begin, but I have been knitting every since and I love it. It is truly wonderful to see my family wear and actually love the sweaters, hat, house slippers, etc. I find it is very satisfying to create something while my husband is also creating something in music, but, he can play much faster than I can knit...for now ;)
Well, I did not expect this to be a book, just a quick introduction to this social media site. Now, to continue with my work, right after I submit my first story. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe weekend!
