Be aware! Steemconnect Phishing Scam Discovered and Reported!

in steemit •  7 years ago

Today I spot strange comment on my friend's post. As phishing scams are in expansion this days I decided to investigate this one too.

Screenshots will tell you everything. This time scammers go step forward and clone Steemconnect trying to steal users passwords.

If you see comment like this don't click on link provided.

I went to profile of commenter and his comments are all scam.

He leave link to this website who are safe to visit, but it's trap.

When you click to "Join now" button it will redirect you to fake Steemconnect. If you login through this form your Steemit account will be hacked. (steemconnect.ml) is not valid domain and is used only for this purpose.

If you see something similar or suspicious report it to @steemcleaners here:

Cmon man, it's not a scam. You will get free upvotes for 30 days. :D
Jk, those scumbags are ruining this beautiful community.

I should keep secret only for myself, lol :)

I know if anything i wouldn't touch any site that has steemit, and http instead of https

Yes, but there is good services such as busy.org who are officially supported and give upvotes when we post through it. Authors of trusted services are usually known and also it's easy to spot suspicious services.

Yeah its just they can catch you off guard

thanks for the heads up, will pass it on.

You re welcome mate.

Obviously the url looks scammy.

When you are using a trustworthy service, other than having used it before, how do we really know we are probably using Steemconnect? I mean, how do you know you aren't logging into a site that can't be trusted?

Thanks for reporting this. I'm on alert!

Thanks for the question and my apologize for late response.
When we re on third party website and it ask for authorization via steemconnect, we can be sure only if in address bar of our browser is steemconnect.com. Third party websites use steemconnect as "social login" (external login) and they haven't anything with our username/wif.

In general any website who provide login with steemconnect can be trustworthy. But as additional security measurement first check https://steemprojects.com/ or http://steemtools.com/ to find official supported projects for steem/steemit. That's how we can be sure.

Thank you for building awareness for everyone here. Much appreciated.

You re most welcome.

Thank you for the info I have resteemed for the community also.

Thank you very much mate!
