Gardens on the roofs of New York
New York will have a new face, a skyline with green hues no longer just concrete and steel.
The City of New York has passed a law to improve the energy efficiency of the metropolis, the Climate Mobilization Act which also includes the transformation of roofs into gardens and the introduction of solar panels or wind generators.

But we can already imagine what the new panorama of the city will look like, especially if viewed from above.
In addition to the wonderful green lung of Centrale Park there will be many green spots scattered throughout the city, but let's see some data.
By 2030, the reduction in emissions is estimated to be equivalent to the elimination of 1 million cars from the roads.
The purifying action of plants will decrease CO2 emissions, truly fighting the climate crisis.

In winter, green roofs are able to absorb up to 50% of rainwater by regulating its outflow into the city's water system; in general they improve the thermal insulation of the top floors of the houses and contribute to reducing the danger of extreme weather events, such as heavy downpours and torrential rains.
Same thing in summer that protect houses from heat and high temperatures by decreasing the use of air conditioners.

The new law aims to reduce emissions by 80% by 2050 also through regulation the emission limit for certain types of buildings or the obligation to incorporate energy saving measures for the efficiency of heating systems or the possibility of closing up to 24 oil or coal plants within the city limits.

However, the law has already been preceded by fashion for some time, the new trend is: to cultivate.
In fact in New York, cultivated roofs have been a business since 2010, precisely since Brooklyn Grange was born, on Northern Boulevard, the largest roof garden, capable of producing 25 thousand kilos per year of fresh vegetables, herbs, eggs and honey.
To date, there are more than 700 gardens affiliated with public construction, 430 those created in school gardens and thousands of people who decide to grow salad and tomatoes on the terrace at home.

It is a great and concrete intervention on one of the largest and most polluted metropolises in the world that wants to commit itself to improve the life and health of its inhabitants.
