Japanese motorcycle company Yamaha celebrated its 62nd Anniversary on Saturday (1/7) yesterday. From his age, we know that the manufacturer bearing the tuning fork that has been present since 1955. But actually, the company's age is longer than that.
The beginning was not Yamaha Motor Company, but Yamaha Corporation. As for Yamaha Motor Company is one of its subsidiaries.
Yamaha Corp. Founded by a man named Torakusu Yamaha in 1897. The first product the company made was a harmonica.
The decision to enter the automotive industry is realized when the company's capital is already large, and they intend to expand into other businesses. This wing widening occurred when Yamaha was led by Genichi Kawakami, who served in 1950 to 1977.
"This company has a good performance and has financial freedom, I feel the need to find the next business market, so I'm doing research," said Genichi, quoted from page yamaha- motor.com, Sunday (2/7/2017).
In that research, he explores many possible products explored, ranging from sewing machines, auto parts, and motorcycles. Market and competitive factors that ultimately make this company focus to the automotive industry, rather than others.
"I told the heads of research and other managers to visit other motorcycle factories all over Japan and they came back and said there is still a chance (to grow the business), even if we enter the market late," he said.
Indeed, when it already there are several motorcycle manufacturers that exist. Honda, for example, has been established since 1948, while Suzuki in 1952.
Finally, in 1955, Yamaha managed to make a motor called YA-1. Motor which is also known by the name of Atakombo is equipped with a single cylinder engine, 2-stroke, and touted copy-paste motor from Germany named DKW 125 cc.
In Indonesia itself, YIMM was officially established on July 6, 1974. Yet they actually operated in 1969, as an assembly company whose components were imported from Japan. When it is only 10 units of motor that can be made per day.
