I have absolutely no idea what I am doing but that tends to be the case whenever i start something new.

You can start checking the steemit tag, there are many posts to explain things.
But steemit itself is also early, and it needs to solve its own lot of problems and design issue, there are many different aspects to it too, and different ways to use it. And also many side apps and stuff that can be used on top of it.
