Hello steemit Friends,
I want to talk to you today about copyrighted on photos and images.
I noticed that many, if not most, of those who post his contents here in steemit, use images and photos taken in internet without a care . It is illegal, if images are copyrighted.
Intellectual property defends legitimate copyright.. authors spending their time and resources on producing high-quality images and photos (I am one of them) and it wasn't fair of you to use their work without respecting copyright.
Take the time to read this:
source: http://www.copyrightlaws.com/copyright-law-using-images-and-photos-from-google/
This article discusses the copyright implications of using images found through an online search engine such as Google. In general, you should assume that all images you want to use are protected by copyright unless and until you find out otherwise.
Then you could ask me how to use images or photos that you haven't taken yourself... there's a easy way to both respect copyright and use free images. I'll let you all figure out what that is.
HOW TO USE IMAGES AND PHOTOS WITHOUT INFRINGE COPYRIGHT
Let's assume that we are looking for a whale photos; let's go to google images and type "whale":
then click on TOOLS and USAGE RIGHTS:
Now we have to choise.. if we want to use the image or photo with modification:
or whether we want to use the image or photo without modification:
The result of the search obviously going to vary depending of the choices that we made, but we do have a lot of images and photos to choose from, without infringe copyright.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
The best case is to produce your own photographs. Of course, not even professional photographers have a stock of every kind of photograph one could want to use, so there are other ways to license use of someone else's photo;
BUY STOCK. When you buy the rights to a stock image, you are paying the artist for the right to use that image.
USE CC0 or other "free" stock from pixabay.com or another stock photo site that licenses images for commercial use.
NOTE: Using an image on a Steemit blog is COMMERCIAL FOR PROFIT USE. This means you MUST have permission to use the image for commercial purposes to avoid copyright claims.

I agree on everything - except for Using an image on a Steemit blog is COMMERCIAL FOR PROFIT USE
I'm not sure what you say is correct..

For the purpose of copyright, because you earn money (consideration) for your posts on Steemit, your post is commercial. If you did not earn money, you could possibly consider it educational, personal, or media fair use.

As a professional photographer who has spent some time fighting this and joining many discussions on the issue, this is a losing battle. The only way to stop this mindless usage of intellectual property is very restrictive DRM and services/apps that respect it. And no one wants that.
I think copyright as we know it is dead. As taking images off the web becomes even easier and easier, very few are going to take the time to consider usage rights. The best way forward for content creators is to embrace this instead of fighting it and instead figure out ways to ride the wave.
And some of the most successful creators I know have done just that and have beat the rush by giving their stuff away and instead working on building loyalty with customers do do pay. I do it myself. All my photos are licensed under creative commons. They are still registered with the US copyright office and I have gone after people who have used them commercially without permission (and I've won) but for all other cases, I give it all away.
I thank you for posts like this, because it is always useful to educate people on the matter, but I honestly don't think we can put this cat back in the bag.

There are so many stock images, but sometimes I just look and see what is in my image folder. I try not to be "guilty" but I must have had at least a single transgression. I think that technology will fix itself. If I earn Steem for example on an accidental infringement, it should be easy to correct as it is recorded on the blockchain. An artist could hire a bot to find their images and inform the user of the transgression or even sue. I think the tech will work itself out. What say you?

Hi and thanks for sharing. Since a friend of mine told me on Steemit that using pictures from the Internet without citing where it was gotten from is totally wrong , I am now aware of it and always cite where I got the pictures from. I don't think that is illegal , except I am wrong. Most times people are only cautious about plagiarism when it comes to writing research papers , thesis etc.
