This information should help the developers in improving the website, other metrics like Facebook shares or Google+, backlinks, etc. should give the community an idea about where we're standing right now. Of course more Facebook shares, Google +1s, backlinks in the form of mentions on other websites, reviews and so on should also help greatly.

      Anything will definitely help. I'm in the process of collecting some ideas to bring into real life in the form of a 'tool' that will help the Steem community to share and spread the word about Steemit. If you have any ideas, make sure to send them my way!
