My Biggest Fears For Steem and Steemit - Openly Sharing Reward Amounts - What are we cultivating here....

I think we are entering a tricky period right now with where the price of Steem sits and also with what is unfolding amongst authors/followers alike.

This platform is fantastic, conceptually it is a winner in my eyes. I do think we are witnessing some core problems which stem from the ability to see what $ amount a post is rewarded.

What I am questioning here is the point of comparison. Comparing oneself to another based upon monetary reward is a dangerous ideal. It is actually one that should not be cultivated in this world nor do I believe it should be cultivated on Steemit.

This dollar amount in my opinion should be hidden.

It should not be there for everyone to see. What should be there is some other kind of meter that indicates the success of a post.

I've been reading a number of posts by @abit who talks about voting often. It got me the thinking along these lines that there should be an alternative means to demonstrate the value of a post.

What I am afraid of is if the majority is going end up becoming disheartened by lack of reward in contributing to this platform. Now I hear some people saying, that is just people crying poor. But the reality is, if the majority is disenfranchised by the platform, the platform will suffer.

The majority is what matters here.

There also should be other ways to contribute value to be rewarded with Steem. Not everyone is a great writer, who can produce excellent piece after excellent piece, not everyone has an existing audience they can migrate across. But everyone can contribute something and therefore ways to earn Steem by alternative means should be considered.

Finally, the price of Steem is at a position where it seems to have settled somewhat. If there is not growth within the price/the platform and the majority isn't pleased.

I fear the money that the speculators have, will flow out and into other projects. This also needs to be considered because the common steemer is not powering up and investing in the platform.

I think steem is just fine. I don't make shit on my post but I make just as much or more on my comments because of my personality. So we all win. If u suck st writing then just comment on things u like and u can make just as much.

Interesting point @karbonxx - appreciate it!

people want to know how popular a post or person is.
That's why every social media tracks likes, views, thumbs up, ect.
The correlation between the popularity of a post and how much money someone makes its common knowledge among users. So changing the dollar amount to a different number like "likes" won't do anything but require you to use a calculator to figure it out.
If it's obvious how much everyone is making who cares? Doesn't that just encourage more heavy and smart usage?

potentially you are right! But if people drop off like flys as a result, the platform suffers. If the platform is being sold as a way to make money by blogging and you don't make money. People drop off.

Maybe because the comparison can be too easily gauged by a $ amount. I post either way because I enjoy it. But generally speaking if people don't experience what they are being sold...that becomes problematic! In my opinion @krissrage

It may take awhile for steemit to morph into it's potential. I wish we could be core creative here like how youtube was in the beginning.

I've often thought that the reward should be visible once you open the post and not on the headline in the listing page. This way they at least have to see the text b4 they pile their vote on top of a number value.........

Interesting post.

I believe the current way steem is incentivised works well. I have been thinking along the same lines as you although i compare steem to youtube. People still create new channels and make money. I am a bit unsure of the 12 hr system though only in that there is no incentive to read old content until your daily votes are used. I am only new to this though.
