Of course it won't!!!!
In my honest opinion I believe Steemit to be closer to Reddit then Facebook. Maybe with the implementation of smart media tokens and communities from the start of it all would have given that facebook feel. Is that what the creators wanted? I don't think it really was. Facebook has been able to accomplish many great things but I has also broken the trust of many people. While breaking our trust they got rich in the process. Now with privacy issues coming up all the time Facebook is looking to clean up its act. Maybe that's the real reason why Mark Zuckerberg is looking into crypto possibilities.
The Steem blockchain probably offers Facebook it's only true hope. Can Facebook possibly launch their own SMT? According to Ned they can. Honestly I don't see them doing so unless we were to become much more popular. It would be something special to see them launch an SMT on Facebook.
Back to the topic of Steemit replacing Facebook. I don't see that ever happening but nothing is out of the realm of possibilities with Blockchain tech!!!!! I can see FB being around for a while but so will Steem. So we are in for some exciting competition. I'm curious to see how they get into crypto. We know FB has tons of resources and are loaded so they will be a force to be reckoned with. Who knows they might be the reason we blow up!!!!!

I don't think Facebook can be replaced by a blockchain alternative the entire premise of Facebook is built on the centralisation of data, its essentially a directory with a massive data warehousing program to support it.
It is built on creating feedback loops and creating pockets on the internet for echo chambers and content bias curation, that's how they are able to keep their users on and engaged for that long and gathering as frequent as much data as possible on every single user.
Then uses that as monetization and sells it to the highest bidder.
A blockchain alternative would have to function in exactly the same way but offer financial incentives like offer users part of the ad cost back to the consumer as thanks for providing the data in order to disrupt facebooks business model
Which is not what I think Steemit will ever become, its more of a content marketing tool like a Medium or Tumblr

I would say it's a titans' duel, Facebook has time in the networks but Steemit also comes with everything and every day there are thousands of new users who join it.

Well I think we'll see who attracts more users, who offers better and more competitive benefits.

You couldn't explain better the reasons, the trust, it's worthless that when it gets lost it's difficult to return to its original state, leave facebook, just before entering steemit, just because it wasn't pleasant for me anymore, then came all these scandals of privacy violation that simply don't encourage anyone to return, however I don't compare steemit with facebook, they seem to be different concepts, where steemit is consolidated in originality! I bet on the growth of steemit with greater popularity than facebook, so Mark will have to reinvent himself to recover the hearts of many, mine is already steemit.

I agree it's more like Reddit, but checkout these two projects that are similar:
