Zimbabwe's new President Emmerson Mnangagwa dismissed former President Robert Mugabe's cabinet on Monday (27/11). The dissolution of the cabinet came after Mugabe resigned under the military's ruling that took control of the capital city of Harare last week. "Mnangagwa is in the process of bringing together new cabinet ministers," said Misheck Sibanda, head of the presidential secretary and cabinet in a statement quoted by AFP on Tuesday (28/11). According to Sibanda, the new Zimbabwean President, Mnangagwa has appointed Patrick Chinamasa as temporary finance minister and Simbarashe Mumbengegwi as interim foreign minister.
But Sibanda does not indicate when Mnangagwa will announce his new cabinet. Mnangagwa, 75, was sworn in on Friday last week. The inauguration of Zimbabwe's new President ended the dramatic political crisis in Harare. The military eventually intervened in the reign of Robert Mugabe, after the 93-year-old former president inaugurated his wife, Grace, as vice president. Previously, Mugabe sacked Mnangagwa, who was then a vice president. Grace's inauguration as a vice president is allegedly part of the scenario to make the First Lady of Zimbabwe a substitute for Mugabe. While taking over the capital of Harare, the military argued that they just wanted to get rid of 'criminals' around Mugabe. As for Mnangagwa, in his inauguration, promised to bring change for the good of Zimbabwe and his rakyt. Promising to be faithful, Mnangagwa is determined to revive an economy that slumped former President Robert Mugabe's legacy, as well as attracting foreign investment.
