PREVIOUS POST: Stuck For Ideas ? 5 Ways To Counter Writer's Block !

As a community, if we are going to survive we need to help each other as much as we can. I'm not an expert blogger, and i have only been for seven months on Steemit now - with a 5 month break actually - but i feel i can give some advice on a few things Steemit related.

Today i'd like to cover the use and importance of using tags to get more exposure. After all you are putting all this work into writing good content and you want people to read what you have to bring to this community. Putting in the effort to write a decent article can be time consuming and as minnow it can be frustrating to have get no feedback or an upvote.

We got five tags to use on Steemit, and if you do it right, you will be seen my more people and make more money in return. Here are some tips on how to maximize your five tags on Steemit.

1. Use All Five Tags

When you are posting a blog, always make sure you are using all five tags. If you don't know what tags to use then go search in the tag list to the left of your screen. It looks like this picture:

If you want votes & rewards, you want to be seen. If your post is listed in on of these tags, you will increase your exposure and your post will be listed in multiple categories which will make your earning potential greater.

If you categorize your stories, you will increase exposure through multiple listings for each tag and there wont't be as much posts in each category and in this way it will stay at the top of the page a bit longer.

note: Not filling out your tags completely is one way you will not be seen on Steemit. So, take your time and fill them in and you will see more success.

2. Don't Use Arbitrary Tags

By this i mean using tags for the wrong reasons. Don't use tags that have nothing to do with the purpose of your blog. Like for example using the tag "introduceyourself" while you are not introducing yourself but just for the reason of being spotted my some whales. Its just wrong to do this and this may even lead to some downvotes or unfollows.
If you tag, do it correctly!

3. The First Tag

The first tag is the most important because the first tag in the list will be the main category that the post is in. Your fist tag should be the highest ranking topic that deals with your blog. Like for this one, my top choice is steemit and it has all to do with my content. If you are doing a photo or some other graphic design, you should put your first tag as "art" because it is the highest ranking topic that has something to do with your content.

4. Filling It Out

The next thing you want to do is getting more specific each one after the first one. For examle if you are a photographer and you have traveled to lets say France. U have taken some pictures there and now you have made a selection of some nice photo's and you would like to make a blog about it. In this case you could do Photography, Travel, France, vacation, tourist. Each time you make a new tag you get a little bit more detailed about your post.

5. Using Less Popular Tags

This may not always be true but sometimes an advantage of using less popular hastags is that your post has a bigger chance of appearing under trending or hot pages. This is simply because there are not as many posts and you are competing with a lot less writers.

Well that's it for now! I hope you have enjoyed reading!
