Today was the start of a new movement from the steemit team here in Uganda. Putting a smile on the underprivilaged children's faces. And this was made possible by the steemit team @tesaganewton, @musamalijames, @battebilly, @jaraumoses. This was the beginning of the many #givingback ceremonies we shall be having.
These are children from my county Takajjunge, where I reside who had shared their life with me. Enduring two meals a day because the parents couldn't afford taking care of feeding. And it got worse with education, as however much they study in a UPE(Universal Primary Education) school which offers free education, they still can't make the basic school requirements like books, pens, pencils, brooms, pencils, toilet papers, and a fee for meals which the school needs for entry. Some end up staying home until the parent meets these requirements enduring up to a month of not stepping in class when the school has opened.
We decided to bring to these children what is lacking to fulfill their education right. And that was the scholastic materials.
After the children getting some of the school materials needed on the reporting day at school.
Though access to education has improved the world today, Uganda is still behind when it comes to children getting full access to this education. With a primary enrollment rate of 81% and primary education completion rate of 50%, this leaves more than 60% of Ugandan youth having incomplete primary education in Uganda. Primary school is an equivalent of elementary school in USA.
At the time of entry into school, parents admit their children into school in big numbers, but in the middle of this education journey, lots of children drop out because they get held by the finances to facilitate education.
Today me and my steemit team mates made a decision to have an influence on the education of some of these children. A friend @tesaganewton had withdrawn some steemit money, and we came up with an idea of making a difference in the lives of these children in takajjunge who were struggling with their education as a result of the financial constraints they had.
Me and the team supplying the books and pens.
These children have the passion for education and you could see how badly they needed the books that hold them from having a perfect education. But it's the finances that let them not enjoy this right.
The team with some of the parents who couldn't hide the excitement of what we had offered to their children.
We supplied pens, pencils, books, toilet papers, mathematical sets, and also some money to ease the transportation of the children and support their meals as well.
Many more of these charity events are coming as we try to reach the underprivilaged children whose voice is low and have not had the privilage of enjoying their right. The steemit platform is with the team as these funds come from the money that they pay us for posting and commenting.
Thankyou steemit community @musamalijames
