Recovering my motivation to Steem
Take a look at my Steemit activity and you will notice my posting frequency halted dramatically at the end of last month. This is because life decided to kick my wife and I in the balls; then it was so kind to wait for us to get up before doing it again. I do not plan to publish exactly what occurred but I do wish to discuss briefly how it has been difficult to pick up where I left off here on Steemit.
Have you ever had a solid running routine that was sidelined by a major illness or injury?
It is no easy feat to start again and this is precisely how I am feeling about Steemit. My Steemit motivation has been zapped and I don't know where it went or how to recover it.
The biggest roadblock to me posting again is that I was Steeming at a fairly high intensity before, trying my hardest to churn out at least one post per day. Even beforehand that level of commitment was difficult to sustain and the thought of returning to it has prevented me from writing any posts. It is quite odd because my underlying excitement and optimism regarding the platform still remains - I just have limited desire to participate.
This post is me strapping on my running shoes and heading out the door
I know once I get going my enthusiasm will grow, so I am starting to post again despite the fact it feels like a chore.
I have no intention to return to my previous level of activity here on Steemit and I believe this will be very beneficial to the quality of the content I produce. In retrospect posting daily was not the right way for me to approach Steemit. Often it was a bit like throwing s#$% against a wall to see what sticks.
What can you expect from me?
I will be slowing the speed at which I produce content, but hopefully I will produce at least one piece per week at a minimum. In addition, rather than posting whatever randomly is on my mind at the time I will be focusing my efforts on content that I believe will:
- Benefit Steemit
- Benefit me personally (w/ development experience)
- Provide value for my followers
More specifically you can expect posts on these topics...
Steemit & Steemit Related Development
The main reason I am here is because I am passionate about the platform; thus I will continue to contribute by developing for Steemit and providing my thoughts regarding its future development. Please stick around if you enjoyed Steemit Pond or any of my ideas related to Steemit such as:
Comics:
I will continue to produce comics related to Steemit and other cryptocurrencies:
- The Evolution and Diversity of the Steemit Whale
- Steemit Addiction
- Satoshi Nakamoto, @dan Larimer, and Vitalik Buterin walk into a bar...
- 'A' is for Anarchy
Panama:
From time to time I will post about the country of Panama (where I live) to share what life is like in this small but interesting country.
Thanks to my followers!
I am extremely grateful for all of my followers on Steemit. Unfortunately I may lose some with this post given that not everyone is interested in the subjects outlined above; however, in the end I think reducing my content is the best decision for me and for my followers.
Thanks to all!
Hey, we have the same name! Looking forward to what you have to post. Back to "writing 1 post a day", I believe, as writers, we can get burnt out. So the best way is to give yourself a minimim like, "300 crappy words a day." Afterwards, you find that you will write much more than 300 words because you get into the zone, but if you only crank out 300 words of horse doo-doo, you still win. Keep you motivated! Cheers!

Hi Brian,
I'm not really much of a writer. I would consider myself more of a content producer (code, comics, etc). Either way your words still apply and the idea of doing a little each day is great advice that I will follow.
Thanks for the comment.

It's true when everything is humming along anyone can be productive, it's those that can produce when crap hits the fan that are the best in class.

Productivity isn't my issue. I have been keeping busy doing things that need to be done. It is the fact that I don't really feel like steeming that much that is the issue.

Been there - actually may currently be there. Especially with the price of steem in the dumps and rewards not being as much.

Hey man, sorry to hear about that, but maybe I still have a shot after all!
I'm nowhere to be seen here lately...Steemit it's just not really appealing to me anymore but I still sign in weekly to cash out.
Regarding injuries and health issues, they really suck the life out of you, it crushes all momentum, just hang in there and don't push it. If you can't exercise or you are under a lot of stress lately just watch everything you eat, it's very easy to relapse as frustration sets in. Overeating (and doing heroin!) is usually the first thing you do.

@moonjelly! Thanks man.
I noticed that you had pretty much disappeared and honestly I can understand why. I have been feeling the same lately. Sad to see you go.
Steemit in its current form is definitely not for everyone. I'm still sticking around but focusing my message more toward the areas where my posts were able to earn.
Think there is any chance you'll start back up?

Hmm not sure, I'm not really a blogger since as you know English is not my native tongue so it's hard sometimes to come up with the proper words and expressions.
And of course, I've been very vocal about how Steemit works and that doesn't really earn either. But if I have something to say or a quick idea I would definitely post it here on a whim. You did a great job developing your own style and that's all that matters if you enjoy it, I'll definitely keep reading ;)
