The regulation of bitcoin in Indonesia remains unclear and requires a very long process to clarify the regulation of bitcoin in Indonesia.

In Indonesia, one of these cryptocurrency types has certainly not been used as a means of payment. However, there is still no clear decision on the status of bitcoin to serve as one of the means of investment, in the form of commodities.

CEO of Bitcoin Indonesia, Oscar said that it supports the rules that prohibit bitcoin to be used as a means of payment.

On the other hand, Oscar hopes that one day bitcoin can be accepted as one of the investment instruments such as commodity futures.
In South Korea, bitcoin can be traded because it is considered as one of the investment instruments, ie commodity futures. While in Indonesia, to consider bitcoin as a futures commodity is being discussed, and still waiting for the decision of the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti).

Although not yet clear, there is potential if bitcoin can be considered as a commodity futures. Currently, a Bappebti study on the matter is being conducted.

Task Force (Satgas) Task Force Investor Financial Services (OJK), Tongam Lumban Tobing said that bitcoin is only prohibited to be used as a means of payment in Indonesia.

However, until now it still does not know the official ban bitcoin to be used as an investment tool. However, Tongam ensures that OJK always coordinates with the Ministry of Trade and Bappebti.

At the end of January, Bappebti stated that it is reviewing bitcoin and see the potential to make the digital currency as a commodity. The study was conducted because the government assessed the potential for bitcoin trading.

"The plan, the study will be completed in June 2018," said Head of Market Development and Development Bappebti, Dharmayugo Hermansyah.
