Dear Steemit, just because you are posting on the Steemit forum, doesn't mean you get to use the #steemit tag.

Many posters, including those with higher reps than mine, feel that since they are writing a post on the Steemit forum, that the #steemit tag is a freebee that they can add on to get more views.

You should only use the #steemit tag if your post is about the Steemit forum/ecosystem/cryptocurrency.
Steem refers to the currency, so you should only use the "steem" tag if your post concerns the Steem currency somehow. (Like talking about the price, technical analysis, etc).

And I have a powerful ally in this, just check out this post:

Yea, you definitely don't want to risk being flagged by @berniesanders .

@dantheman has also stated that he may flag badly tagged posts:

It's good to see the whales taking an interest in this.

We appreciate what @neoxian does for the platform. Getting the categories organized is very important. Thank you.

My suggestion to everyone helping out, would be to let the member who posted incorrect tags and/or abusive with tags know and let them correct the issue. We want to encourage proper tagging and this should be the first step.

I see a lot of non-steemit posts on #steemit that aren't flagged.

Well my friend, feel free to flag them. I only have a limited amount of time and voting power you know?

Doing it right now

Plus, I don't want to flag anyone with higher rep than me.

perhaps inquiring as to why they've used a tag - and if no response then flag or flag and inquire and remove if you get a chance to do so assuming the untag. Seems like all it would take would be one good lesson - perhaps a pop up message when people log on letting them know they might lose reputation for abusing the system.

Now i didn't know that thank you for the information

So, now you think that justifies flagging my completely unrelated post? Shall I go ahead and flag all of your posts? Is that the game you want to play?

I'm game if you are.
